풀리아 Apulia

[아츠앤컬쳐] 풀리아는 이탈리아에서 고풍스러운 반도 남쪽에 있으며 특별한 마법 같은 장소이다. 이 지역의 역사는 너무나 풍부해서 한 번에 다 표현할 수 없을 정도다. 이 지역의 한 부분이 무슬림 사라센에 정복된 후, 처음으로 미케네 그리스의 식민지가 되었다.

이른바 ‘스투포르 문디(세계의 경이)’라고 하는 신성로마제국 황제 페데리코 2세는 풀리아를 계승하여 시칠리아를 벗어날 때면 많은 시간을 보냈다. 그의 계몽전제통치는 예술을 포함하여 평화와 번영의 시기를 가져왔다. 트라니의 스베보성과 ‘풀리아의 왕관’이라고 불리는 안드리아의 카스텔 델 몬테 등 당시의 많은 성들이 멋진 로마네스크 건축물과 함께 현존한다.

예술면으로는 풀리아의 바로크가 유명하다. 특히 겨울여행에 완벽한 도시 레체는 예술과 건축의 업적으로 ‘남쪽의 피렌체’라는 별명이 있으며, 그 뛰어난 바로크 스타일은 17세기 스페인의 지배 하에 널리 퍼진 것이다.

독특한 트룰로 건물로 유명한 도시 바리의 작은 마을인 알베로벨로는 1966년에 유네스코 세계문화유산으로 지정되었다. 중세 라틴어 siva arboris belli에서 유래한 이름의 알베로벨로는 언뜻 보기에는 다른 마을들과 비슷한데, 원뿔형 지붕(트룰로)의 독특하고 작은 역사적인 주택들이 산재한다. 이는 유럽에서 훌륭한 토착 건축의 좋은 예로 간주된다.

트룰리의 역사는 15세기 나폴리왕국의 칙령과 관련이 있다. 1481년, 알베로벨로 영토의 소유주들은 주민들에게 모르타르를 바르지 않고 집을 짓게 하여, 불안정한 상태로 철거가 쉽도록 요구하였다. 농민들은 돌멩이만으로 지을 때는 둥근 형태로 지붕을 스스로 받쳐주는 것이 가장 간단한 구조임을 알게 되었다. 그리하여 지붕들은 장식용 첨탑들로 장식되었다.

또한, 이 지역의 특출난 특산품에 발레타의 코라티나 올리브에서 나오는 유명한 엑스트라버진 올리브오일은 폴리페놀이 풍부하다. 여러 올리브오일 중에서도 특정 기대치에 부응하는 매우 독특한 올리브오일로서 옛날 연자매로 찧는 방식을 고수하며 차갑게 압축한다. 또한 ‘벨라 디 체리뇰라’는 극도로 순하며 버터 향이 나고 부드러운 물기가 있는 상당히 큰 이탈리아 올리브이다. 이 품종은 원산지보호지정 또는 PDO 등급을 받았으며, 이에 따라 이탈리아 풀리아주 포지아의 특정 지역에서 재배 및 수확, 가공된다.

부라타 모짜렐라 역시 풀리아의 대표 특산품이다. 겉껍질은 단단한 모짜렐라인 반면 속은 스트라시아텔라와 크림을 함유하고 있어 독특하고 부드러운 질감을 가진다. 맛과 겉과 속이 다른 질감 덕분에, 샐러드, 프로슈토 크루도, 딱딱한 빵, 올리브오일을 곁들인 신선한 토마토, 굵은 후추, 파스타와 잘 어울린다. 한국에서는 이러한 전형적인 풀리아 제품을 대형 백화점이나 DuciDuci 같은 이탈리아 유통업체에서 찾을 수 있다.

Apulia the kingdom of magic

During the winter what place can a Korean tourist visit? Today we have chosen a unique magical place: Apulia and in particular Alberobello. Apulia is located in the southern peninsular section of the country, one of the richest archaeological regions in Italy. The history of this region is so rich that one article is not enough. It was first colonized by Mycenean Greek, after some parts of the regions were conquered by the Muslim Saracens.

Frederick II, Holy Roman Emperor, aka “Stupor Mundi” inherits Puglia, where he spends much of his time when away from Sicily. His enlightened reign sees a flourishing of the arts and a period of relative peace and prosperity. Many of his castles, such as Castello Svevo in Trani and Castel del Monte in Andria, called the "Crown of Apulia", survive, along with some wonderful Romanesque constructions.

Famous in art is the Apulian Baroque. Especially in Lecce, city that cannot leave you indifferent, perfect town to visit in winter. The triumph of art and architecture earned it the nickname "Florence of the South". The predominant style is the Baroque, widespread in the 17th century during the Spanish domination.

Today we want to talk to you about a unique place in the world: Alberobello, a small town of the Metropolitan City Of Bari, famous for its unique Trullo buildings. The trulli of Alberobello have been designated as a Unesco World Heritage site since 1966. Alberobello is a small town like any other at a first glance. Small houses with conical roofs are dotted everywhere around you. Famous for its unique small historical houses called trullo (plural trulli). They are considered one of the best examples of vernacular architecture in Europe. The name of the city originated from the medieval Latin name of the region “siva arboris belli” (The wood of the tree of war).

The history of the trulli is linked to an edict of the 15th-century Kingdom of Naples that subjected every new settlement to a tribute. In 1481, the owners of the territory of Alberobello, imposed on the residents that they built their dwellings dry, without using mortars, so that they could be configured as precarious buildings and easily demolished. Having to use only stones, the peasants found in the round form with self-supporting domed roof the simplest configuration. The roofs were embellished with decorative pinnacles.

Very special and unique is the famous Extravergin Olive oil from the Coratina olive tree in the Barletta area, wealth of polyphenols. Olive oils are very different among them and are able to respond to specific expectations in terms of taste. Olives pressed cold in the ancient stone press. Very interesting also the olives of Cerignola, called Bella di Cerignola, enormous Italian olives with an irresistibly mild, buttery flavor and tender bite. The Bella di Cerignola variety has Protected Designation of Origin, or PDO status, which means these olives must be grown, harvested, and processed in the specific region of Foggia in Puglia, Italy.

Burrata mozzarella it is typical product of Apulia. The outer shell is solid mozzarella, while the inside contains straciatella and cream, giving it an unusual, soft texture.

Thanks to its flavor and differing textures inside and outside, it goes well with salad, prosciutto crudo, crusty bread, fresh tomatoes with olive oil, cracked black pepper, or pasta. In Korea you can find these typical Apulia products in large department stores or at Italian distributors such as DuciDuci.
