코르티나 담페초

[아츠앤컬쳐] 코르티나 담페초는 돌로미티 중심부의 벨루노 현에 위치한 작은 도시다. 인근의 남티롤 보다 덜 알려져 인기도 덜하지만, 코르티나 지역에는 이탈리아 알프스의 그림 같은 풍경 속에서 즐길 수 있는 다양한 활동들이 있다.

역사

코르티나 담페초가 정확히 언제 세워졌는지는 알 수 없지만, 문헌에 따르면 1412년 베네치아 공화국에 의해 정복되었다. 한 세기가 흐른 뒤 코르티나는 오스트리아 제국의 지배를 받게 되고, 이후 3세기 동안 계속되었다. 18세기 말 관광이 시작되면서 이 도시는 명성을 얻게 되고 “돌로미테의 진주”라는 별명도 얻게 된다.

1956년에 처음으로 코르티나에서 동계 올림픽이 개최되어 관광 붐이 전 세계로 퍼져나가면서 일어났다. 그 후 코르티나는 수려한 산세와 도시의 우아한 거리 및 건물들 덕분에 알프스 전체에서 가장 인기 있는 여행지 중 하나가 되었다. 코르티나의 명성은 지난 50년 동안 급격히 높아져서 관광산업이 도시 경제의 주요 동력이 되었다.

경관

코르티나는 2009년 유네스코 세계 자연 유산에 등재된 돌로미티의 놀라운 경관으로 둘러싸여 있다. 돌로미티의 암석은 특정한 화학적 구성을 보이는데, 그로 인해 옅은 붉은 색 계통의 독특한 색조를 띈다. 돌로미티를 특별하게 만드는 또 다른 특징은 무려 1,500미터 이상 치솟은 긴 수직 절벽인데, 세계에서 가장 높은 수직 암벽들 중 하나다.

즐길 거리

코르티나는 빙하 호수와 웅장한 절벽으로 둘러싸인 알프스 최고의 하이킹 코스 중 하나를 품고 있다. 등산객들은 오염되지 않은 깨끗한 자연이 주는 평화를 사계절 즐길 수 있다. 봄부터 가을까지 방문객들은 코르티나와 카랄초 두 도시를 단 4시간 만에 연결하는 이탈리아에서 가장 아름다운 자전거 도로 중 하나를 즐길 수 있다.

음식

코르티나 전통 요리의 대부분은 도시의 특별한 역사로 인해 오스트리아 음식 유산과 이탈리아 최고의 음식 전통이 성공적으로 결합된 것이다. “카네데를리”(독일어로 크뇌델) 와 같은 일부 요리는 코르티나, 남티롤 및 티롤 지역에서 즐겨 먹는 대중적인 음식이다. 카네데를리는 시금치, 치즈, 빵가루 등을 섞은 반죽을 동그랗게 빚어 만든 완자 요리로 일반적으로 따뜻한 국물에 담아낸다. 반면에, 비트를 넣어 만든 라비올리의 일종으로 파르미자노 치즈를 뿌려먹는 “카순체이”처럼, 전형적인 이탈리아 알프스의 별미도 맛볼 수 있다. 이 지역에서 가장 인기 있는 디저트는 단연 건포도와 잣을 넣은 사과파이인 “슈트루델”로, 보통 바닐라 크림을 얹어 먹는다.

CORTINA D'AMPEZZO AND SURROUNDINGS

Cortina d’Ampezzo is a small town situated in the province of Belluno, in the heart of the Dolomites. While being less popular and advertised than the neighboring South Tirol, Cortina’s zone nevertheless offers a wide range of activities in the picturesque scenery of the Italian Alps.

HISTORY: While the exact date of its foundation stays unknown, historical documents state that Cortina d’Ampezzo was conquered by the Republic of Venice in the year 1412. A century later Cortina went under the dominance of Austrian empire for the following three centuries.

The beginning of tourism at the end of the 18^th century brought fame to the city, which gained the title of “Pearl of the Dolomites”.

The touristic boom took place in 1956, when for the first time the Winter Olympics were held in Cortina and streamed all over the world. After then, Cortina became one of the most popular destinations in all the Alps thanks to its unique mountains and elegant streets and buildings. Cortina’s fame grew exponentially in the last 50 years making tourism the leading force of its economy.

LANDSCAPE: Cortina is surrounded by the astonishing landscaped of the Dolomites, part of the Unesco’s World Natural Heritage since 2009. The Dolomites are characterized by a particular chemical composition of the rock, which gives it a brighter color with some red shades. Another peculiar trait that makes the Dolomites unique are its long vertical cliffs that rise more than 1500 meters, being one of the highest vertical rock walls in the world.

ACTIVITIES: Cortina offers one of the best hiking trails in the Alps surrounded by glacial lakes and majestic cliffs, where hikers can enjoy the peace of an uncontaminated nature in every season. From spring to autumn, the visitors can enjoy one of the most beautiful cycle lanes of Italy that links the two cities of Cortina and Calalzo in just 4 hours. In the winter season, Cortina is also one the most famous ski resorts of the Alps attracting tourists and skiers from all over the world with its breathtaking sceneries.

Cortina has also been chosen not only for the 2021 Ski World Cup, but also for the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics along with Milan and Livigno, which represents the perfect occasion to bring Cortina’s territory under the spotlight for the first time after 1956.

CUISINE: most of Cortina’s cuisine, due to its particular history, succeeds in combining the Austrian culinary legacy with the finest Italian tradition. Some dishes, such as “Canederli”, also known as “Knödel” in german, are a common food in the area of Cortina, South Tirol and Tirol. Canederli consist in a set of three or four breadcrumbs balls filled with speck, spinach and cheese, and usually served with a warm broth. On the other hand, we can also find some typical Italian delicacies of the Italian Alps, such as “Casunzei”, a type of ravioli filled with beet and season with some Parmesan. The most popular dessert in the zone is surely the apple Strudel, an apple pie with raisins and pine nuts, usually accompanied by some vanilla flavored cream.
