[아츠앤컬쳐] 플리트비체 호수 국립공원은 크로아티아에서 가장 인기 있는 관광지이자, 유럽에서 가장 큰 경이로움을 주는 자연 중의 하나다. 호수는 독특한 석회암의 석회화 퇴적으로 형성된 계단식 폭포로 연결되어 있으며, 16개의 청록색의 맑고 아름다운 호수로 이루어져 있다. 호수는 사슴, 곰, 늑대, 멧돼지, 희귀 조류가 서식하는 울창한 숲으로 둘러싸여 있다.

플리트비체 호수의 독특한 자연미와 석회암 장벽과 호수가 형성되는 석회화 형성 과정은 뛰어난 가치를 지닌다. 그 결과, 플리트비체 호수 국립공원은 1979년 유네스코 세계유산 목록에 가장 처음으로 등재된 곳 중 하나가 되었다.

이 공원은 수도 자그레브와 해안 도시 자다르의 중간에 있는 산악 지역에 위치하며, 300㎢의 면적에 호수가 8km가 넘는다. 고도는 1,280m에서 380m까지 다양한데, 호수간 차이는 단지 135m에 불과하고, 벨리키 슬랩이 70m로 가장 높다. 호수는 상류 호수와 하류 호수로 나뉘는데, 상류 호수는 더 큰 백운암으로 형성되었으며, 부드러운 경사에 들쭉날쭉한 물가가 특징이고, 반면에 하류 호수는 가파른 둑이 있는 석회암 협곡에 숨겨져 있고, 코쟈크와 프로쉬찬스코 예제로가 가장 크다. 이 공원은 높고 인상적인 벨리키 슬랩을 포함하여 90여 개의 폭포가 있고, 114개의 동굴과 구덩이도 발견되었다. 공원은 세계의 주요 생물다양성 보호지역 중 하나로, 1,400종 이상의 식물과 아종이 서식하고 있다.

Plitvice Lakes National Park - A UNESCO World Heritage Site

Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Croatia and one of the greatest natural wonders in Europe. It consists of sixteen beautiful lakes with crystal blue-green water, connected by cascading waterfalls formed by the sedimentation of travertine, a unique form of limestone. The lakes are surrounded by dense forests inhabited by deer, bears, wolves, boars, and rare bird species.

The unique natural beauty of the Plitvice Lakes and the process of tufa formation, which results in the creation of travertine barriers and the formation of the lakes, is of outstanding universal value. As a result, Plitvice Lakes National Park was among the very first sites worldwide to be recognized on the UNESCO World Heritage List, back in 1979.

The park is situated in the mountainous region of Croatia, roughly halfway between the capital city of Zagreb and the coastal city of Zadar. The National Park covers an area of 300 square kilometers, with lakes extending over eight kilometers. The altitude varies from 1,280 to 380 meters, though the lakes differ by just 135 meters. Veliki Slap, the tallest waterfall, is 70 meters high.

The lake system is divided into the Upper and Lower lakes. The Upper lakes are larger, formed in dolomite rock, and feature gently sloping, indented shorelines. In contrast, the Lower lakes, are hidden in a narrow limestone canyon with steep banks. Kozjak and Prošćansko Jezero are the largest lakes.

The park is also home to over 90 waterfalls, including the impressive Veliki Slap, which stands 70 meters tall. Additionally, 114 speleological formations, primarily caves and pits, have been discovered within the park. Plitvice Lakes National Park is also recognized as one of the world’s key biodiversity sanctuaries. It hosts over 1,400 plant species and subspecies.

This allows you to fully appreciate the breathtaking scenery, shimmering lakes, cascading waterfalls, and diverse wildlife. Whether you visit in summer, autumn, winter, or spring, Plitvice Lakes National Park offers something special in every season.
