[아츠앤컬쳐] 모두가 알다시피 레오나르도 다빈치의 예술과 천재성, 역동적 삶을 살았던 그의 놀라운 능력은 시공간을 초월하여 전 세계적으로 찬사를 받는다. 오늘날에는 세계 곳곳에 그의 유산을 기리는 박물관이 있으며, 공연이 벌어지고 있다. 최근 이탈리아 배우 맛씨밀리아노 피나체르 플로리의 1인극 『레오나르도 다빈치 되기 - 불가능한 인터뷰』가 서울과 속초에서 두 차례 공연되었다. 특히 속초에서는 레오나르도 다빈치 박물관이 위치한 ‘피노디아 아트홀 500’에서 열려 더욱 뜻깊었다. 뛰어난 예술가이자 지식인이었던 다빈치가 태어난 이탈리아 피렌체 근교의 작은 도시, 빈치에서 그 놀라운 재능의 기원을 찾아본다.

빈치는 토스카나 특유의 목가적인 분위기로 다양한 경험을 할 수 있는 곳이다. 빈치는 포도밭과 올리브 나무가 가득한 구릉 지대인 몬탈바노 기슭에 자리 잡고 있으며, 그림 같은 풍경에 고풍스러운 건물과 전통적인 마른 돌담, 계단식 지형이 인상적이다. 이 역사적인 분위기 위에 바로 레오나르도 다빈치에 대해 보다 깊이 이해할 수 있는 다양한 활동이 제공된다. 귀디 백작의 성 안에 위치한 레오나르도 박물관은 레오나르도 다빈치의 발명품들을 보여주는 방대한 모형 컬렉션이 있어 거장의 창의적인 천재성을 심층적으로 살펴볼 수 있다.

유서 깊은 시내 중심부의 귀디 광장은 현대 미술 설치 작품들로 새롭게 탈바꿈했다. 밤이 되면 현대적인 조형물들이 빛을 받아 고전과 현대가 아름답게 어우러진 환상적인 장면을 연출하고, 13세기 네오 르네상스 양식으로 리모델링한 아름다운 산타 크로체 성당은 이탈리아 종교 건축의 정수를 보여준다. 시내 중심에서 약 3km 떨어진 앙키아노 마을에 위치한 그의 생가를 둘러보는 것도 좋다. 현재 박물관이 된 이 집은 거장의 유명한 스케치 복제품을 감상하고, 천재의 어린 시절과 그의 가족사를 들려준다.

빈치는 문화 유산 외에도, 비옥한 토양에서 품질 좋은 와인과 올리브 오일을 생산하여 번성한 농업 경제를 자랑한다. 토스카나 전 지역이 그렇듯, 이 마을에서도 전통 음식을 다양하게 맛볼 수 있다. 예를 들어, ‘팝파 알 포모도로’는 토마토, 토스카나 빵, 마늘, 바질, 올리브 오일로 만든 신선하고 영양가도 높은 요리로, 특히 더운 계절에 제격이다. 전통 디저트로 토스카나의 전통 비스킷 ‘칸투쵸’는 아몬드 향이 나는 바삭한 쿠키인데, 보통 달콤한 이탈리아 디저트 와인인 ‘빈 산토’ 한 잔과 함께 먹는다.

Vinci: The City of Leonardo

Leonardo's art and genius, as you may know, spread across Italy and even to France, as the artist led a life marked by constant movement. His prodigious abilities have transcended the boundaries of time and space, and even today, he continues to be celebrated worldwide. Museums and performances dedicated to his legacy are held around the globe, including Being Leonardo da Vinci: An Impossible Interview, a captivating one-man show by Italian actor Massimiliano Finazzer Flory, which has recently been staged in South Korea, with a double performance in the cities of Seoul and Sokcho, where it was held specifically in Pinodia Art Hall 500, which also hosts a museum dedicated to Leonardo himself. Yet, it is in his very name that we find the origins of this extraordinary talent—the small town of Vinci, in the province of Florence, where the brilliant artist and intellectual was born.

While Vinci is renowned worldwide for its association with Leonardo, the town has much more to offer to those who choose to visit, providing them with an immersive experience in Tuscany’s Renaissance-like and idyllic atmosphere.

The town sits on the slopes of Montalbano, a hilly massif rich in vineyards and olive groves, characterized by terraced landscapes supported by traditional dry-stone walls. And from there, you can start your itinerary wondering around the village, enjoying its ancient buildings and picturesque views. But the historical atmosphere is not the only thing that can be cherished in Vinci, as the town offers not only that but also a ton of activities that can be a true opportunity to learn more about the master of Leonardo in his own birth town. To do this, make sure to hop by the Museo Leonardiano: located within the Castle of the Counts of Guidi, the museum boasts an extensive collection of models showcasing Leonardo's inventions, offering an in-depth look into his creative genius.

While you're there, be sure to pause in the iconic Piazza dei Guidi, nestled in the heart of the historic town. This square has been transformed with contemporary art installations, featuring modern looking sculptures that come alive at night, casting mesmerizing light displays that beautifully blend the old with the new. Do not be fooled by its small size: we can confidently say that Vinci offers all kinds of artistic experiences. On this note, do not forget to check the gorgeous Santa Croce church, which dates back to the 13^th Century and that was remodeled in a Neo-Renaissance style, and that is now a perfect example of the Italian religious architecture.

Your full immersion in Leonardo’s life must include a tour of his own very home. Now turned into a museum and located just 3 km from the town center, in the village of Anchiano, this place will give its visitors a chance to admire reproductions of the artist’s famous sketches and gain a deeper understanding of his family roots, offering a unique glimpse into the early life of the genius.

In addition to its cultural heritage, Vinci boasts a thriving agricultural economy, with the production of high-quality wine and olive oil, thanks to the fertile surrounding land. Moreover, as all the Tuscany region does, the town offers a high variety of simple yet delicious traditional foods, like Pappa al pomoro, a fresh and nutritious dish made with tomatoes, Tuscan bread, garlic, basil, and olive oil, especially perfect for the hotter times. Traditional sweet treats are also a must in the area, like Cantuccio, a traditional Tuscan biscuit, often referred to as "biscotti" in English. These are crunchy, almond-flavored cookies that are typically served with a glass of Vin Santo, a sweet Italian dessert wine.

Visiting Vinci means immersing yourself in Renaissance history and culture, paying tribute to the genius of Leonardo while savoring the timeless traditions of this charming corner of Tuscany.
