[아츠앤컬쳐] 발리국립예술대학(Institut Seni Indonesia-ISI Bali)은 '지혜-지식-경이로움(Adhi-Jnana-Astam)'을 주제로 국제 전시회 “제6회 발리 부와나 루파(Bali Bhuwana Rupa VI)”를 개최한다. 7개국에서 온 180명의 시각 예술가와 디자이너의 작품을 선보이는 이번 전시회는 말레이시아 예술계 거장 모하메드(Mohb.)의 개막식 참석 하에 우붓의 ARMA 박물관에서 2026년 2월 23일 월요일에 개막했다. 아스리 빈 압둘 가파르(Asri bin Abdul Ghafar)의 작품으로 구성된 이번 전시는 ARMA 미술관과 ISI 발리의 나타 치타 아트 스페이스에서 2026년 3월 8일까지 진행된다.

회화, 조각, 사진, 도자기, 직물, 다양한 디자인 탐구 등 폭넓은 매체를 선보이는 이번 전시는 전 세계 창작 활동의 유동적이고 협력적인 역동성에 발맞춰 현대 미술과 디자인을 학제 간, 문화 간 대화의 장으로 자리매김한다.

ISI 발리 총장인 와얀 '쿤' 아드냐나(Wayan ‘Kun’ Adnyana) 교수는 이번 전시가 기술적 탁월함, 개념적 깊이, 그리고 미적 표현의 강점을 보여주는 전략적 만남의 장으로 기획되었다고 강조했다. 그는 "우리는 발리 부와나 루파 VI를 인도네시아와 국제 시각 예술가 및 디자이너들의 창의적인 역동성을 한데 모으는 전략적 플랫폼으로 자리매김하고자 합니다. '아디-즈냐나-아스탐(Adhi–Jnana–Astam)'이라는 주제는 활발한 글로벌 대화 속에서 기술적 숙련도, 지적 깊이, 그리고 미적 표현력의 조화를 확인시켜 줍니다."라고 말했다.

쿤 아드냐나에 따르면, 이번 전시는 ISI 발리가 고등 교육의 세 가지 핵심 요소인 교육, 연구, 그리고 지역사회 참여를 맥락적인 예술 실천에 통합하려는 노력을 반영한다. 그는 "이번 전시를 통해 ISI 발리는 관련 예술 및 디자인 실천 내에서 교육, 연구, 그리고 지역사회 참여의 통합을 강화하는 동시에 지속 가능한 국제 협력 네트워크를 확장하고자 합니다."라고 덧붙였다.
이번 전시는 ISI 발리의 학사, 응용 학사, 석사, 박사 학위 수여식(제37기, 제38기, 제39기)과 2026년 개교 23주년(Dies Natalis XXIII)을 기념하여 개최됩니다. 이러한 중요한 행사는 학문적 성취를 기념할 뿐만 아니라, 예술과 문화라는 더 넓은 생태계 내에서 지식과 봉사의 가치를 명확히 표현하는 장이 된다.

전시 기획자인 아리프 바구스 프라세티오, 전동수, 그리고 와리 위사차나는 아디-즈냐나-아스탐을 단순한 기술적 수준을 넘어 깊이 있는 연구와 감동과 변화를 불러일으키는 미적 경험을 요구하는 창작 과정을 이해하기 위한 큐레이션 프레임워크로 설명한다. 아리프 B. 프라세티오는 “우리는 통합적인 큐레이션 해석을 제시하고자 한다. 작품은 기술적 성실함(아디)에서 시작하여 연구와 성찰(즈냐나)을 통해 성장하고, 연결과 사색을 불러일으키는 미적 경험(아스탐)으로 절정에 달합니다.”라고 말했다.

전시에서 아디(숙달)는 기술적, 방법론적 숙련도를 의미하며, 매체와 기술을 활용하여 아이디어를 구체화하는 것을 뜻한다. 즈냐나(지성)는 작품을 지식과 비판적 사고를 표현하는 매체로 자리매김하게 하며, 사회, 문화, 환경, 기술적 문제에 대한 반응을 포함한다. 한편, 아스탐(경이로움)은 내면의 성취를 의미한다. 작품이 물질성을 초월하여 공감, 성찰, 그리고 새로운 사고의 가능성을 열어주는 순간을 말한다.

아리프는 전시된 다양한 매체가 현대 미술과 디자인 실천이 학문적, 지리적 경계를 넘나들며 대화적으로 움직이고 있음을 보여준다고 덧붙였다. 그는 “시각 예술에서 디자인 탐구에 이르기까지 다양한 매체는 현대 미술 실천이 점점 더 국경을 초월하고 있음을 보여줍니다. 기능과 표현은 더 이상 서로 대립되는 것이 아니라 상호 연결되어 있습니다.”라고 말했다.

이번 전시에는 인도네시아 외에도 말레이시아, 일본, 한국, 폴란드, 호주, 미국 등 다양한 국가의 작가들이 참여하여 전시가 문화 간 만남의 장이 되고 있음을 보여준다. ARMA 미술관과 ISI 발리의 나타 치타 아트 스페이스 두 곳에서 전시가 진행되는 만큼, 예술계 종사자부터 일반 대중에 이르기까지 더 넓은 관객층에게 다가갈 것으로 기대된다.

“발리 부와나 루파”는 현대 미술과 디자인의 현재 성과를 보여주는 국제 전시이자, 문화 간, 학문 간 만남의 장이다. 아디-즈냐나-아스탐을 통해 창조는 기술에서 연구로, 그리고 변혁적인 미적 경험으로 나아가는 궤적으로 제시되며, 이는 상상력을 함양하고, 인식을 넓히고, 우리의 공통된 인간성을 풍요롭게 하는 방법이다.

BALI — Monday, 23 February 2026 — The Indonesian Institute of the Arts Bali (Institut Seni Indonesia-ISI Bali) presents the international exhibition “Bali Bhuwana Rupa VI” under the theme “Adhi–Jnana–Astam (Mastery–Mind–Marvel).” Showcasing 180 visual artists and designers from seven countries, the exhibition opened on Monday (23/2/2026) at ARMA Museum, Ubud, inaugurated by Malaysian arts maecenas Mohb. Asri bin Abdul Ghafar, and will run at ARMA Museum and Nata Citta Art Space, ISI Bali through 8 March 2026.

Featuring a wide range of media—painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, textiles, and various design explorations—the exhibition positions contemporary art and design as a space for cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural dialogue, in line with the increasingly fluid and collaborative dynamics of global creative practice.

Rector of ISI Bali, Prof. Dr. Wayan ‘Kun’ Adnyana emphasized that the exhibition is conceived as a strategic meeting ground that demonstrates the alignment of technical excellence, conceptual depth, and the strength of aesthetic expression. “We position Bali Bhuwana Rupa VI as a strategic platform that brings together the creative dynamics of Indonesian and international visual artists and designers. The theme Adhi–Jnana–Astam affirms the harmony of technical mastery, intellectual depth, and aesthetic expressiveness within a vibrant global dialogue,” he said.

According to Kun Adnyana, the exhibition also reflects ISI Bali’s commitment to integrating the three pillars of higher education into contextual artistic practice. “Through this exhibition, ISI Bali strengthens the integration of education, research, and community engagement within relevant art and design practices, while also expanding sustainable international collaborative networks,” he added.

The exhibition is organized in conjunction with ISI Bali’s Graduation Ceremony (Wisuda) for Bachelor’s, Applied Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral programs—XXXVII, XXXVIII, and XXXIX—as well as the institution’s 23rd Anniversary (Dies Natalis XXIII) in 2026. These milestones not only mark academic achievement, but also serve as a space to articulate the values of knowledge and service within the broader ecosystem of arts and culture.

Exhibition curators Arif Bagus Prasetyo, Jeon Dongsu, and Warih Wisatsana describe Adhi–Jnana–Astam as a curatorial framework for understanding creative processes that go beyond skill alone, demanding research depth and an aesthetic experience that moves and transforms. “We aim to offer an integral curatorial reading: works are born from technical diligence (Adhi), grow through research and reflection (Jnana), and culminate in an aesthetic experience that invites connection and contemplation (Astam),” said Arif B. Prasetyo.

Within the exhibition, Adhi (Mastery) is understood as technical as well as methodological command—when medium and technology are employed to sharpen ideas. Jnana (Mind) positions the work as a medium for articulating knowledge and critical thought, including responses to social, cultural, environmental, and technological issues. Meanwhile, Astam (Marvel) refers to an inner attainment: moments when a work exceeds its materiality and opens a space for empathy, reflection, and new possibilities of thinking.

Arif added that the diversity of media on view demonstrates how contemporary art and design practices now move dialogically across disciplinary and geographic boundaries. “The range of media—from visual art to design explorations—shows that contemporary practice is increasingly transboundary. Function and expression are no longer set against each other; they are interlinked,” he said.

In addition to Indonesia, participating artists come from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, Poland, Australia, and the United States, reinforcing the exhibition as a cross-cultural meeting point. With presentations across two venues—ARMA Museum and Nata Citta Art Space, ISI Bali—the exhibition is expected to reach a wider public, from art communities to the general audience.

“Bali Bhuwana Rupa” is an international exhibition presenting current achievements in contemporary art and design, as well as a space for cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary encounter. Through Adhi–Jnana–Astam, creation is framed as a trajectory from skill to research, and toward transformative aesthetic experience—as a way to nurture imagination, broaden awareness, and enrich our shared humanity.
