[아츠앤컬쳐] 지난 9월 14일, DDP에서 열리고 있는 이탈리아 작가 마르코 로돌라(Marco Lodola)의 ‘미래의 빛’ 전시를 기획한 아비오 마티오찌(Avio Mattiozzi, 72세) 건축가를 이탈리아문화원에서 만나 이번 전시에 대한 배경과 전시를 후원한 미라빌리(Mirabili)재단에 대해 얘기를 나누었다. 이탈리아 피렌체에 있는 미라빌리재단은 35명의 이탈리아 작가들의 작품을 꾸준히 컬렉션해서 가구를 디자인하고 신제품 개발을 하고 있다. 1시간 20분간 대화를 마치고 페데리코 파일라(Federico Failla) 주한이탈리아대사와 미켈라 린다 마그리(Michela Linda Magri) 이탈리아문화원장이 합석해서 담소를 나누었다.

Q. 마르코 로돌라 작가 소개를 부탁합니다.
A. 마르코 로돌라는 네오퓨처리즘(New Futurism)의 창시자이자 대표적인 작가입니다. 네오퓨처리즘은 일상적인 재료, 조명, 신기술을 조합해 혁신적이고 새로운 언어로 표현하는 예술운동입니다. 마르코 로돌라는 스와치, 코카콜라, 할리 데이빗슨, 일리, 디오르 등 세계적인 기업과 다수의 콜라보레이션을 진행한 바 있습니다. 이 외에도 로마, 피렌체, 바르셀로나, 마드리드, 파리 등 유럽 주요 도시에 작품이 전시되었으며, 현존하는 작가로서는 드물게 피렌체 우피치미술관에 작품을 전시했습니다.

Q. 이번 전시를 서울에서 기획하게 된 가장 큰 이유는 무엇인가요?
A. 이번 마르코 로돌라 전시는 이탈리아와 한국인의 생활양식과 예술에 대한 사랑과 아름다움의 유사점을 생각하며 구성되었습니다. 우리는 로돌라가 우리의 문화적, 지적 전통을 연결하기 위한 완벽한 예술가라고 생각했습니다. 로돌라의 비전과 메시지는 단순한 형태와 색상, 빛을 활용해 보는 이들에게 훨씬 더 세련된 메시지를 전달하기 위해 연출되었습니다. 그의 메시지는 기본적으로 사랑, 평화, 평온 및 조화를 담고 있습니다. 그리고 우리는 한국인이 이러한 메시지를 많이 이해하고 감사한다는 것을 알고 있습니다.

Q. 미라빌리재단은 어떤 활동을 하는 곳인가요?
A. 미라빌리는 특별한 재능과 시적인 세계를 가진 저명한 예술가와 디자이너를 선정하여 ‘Art of Living’이라는 서식지의 문화적 이미지에 혁신적이고 민감하게 기여합니다. 바로 비전과 감정을 통해 예술과 소통하고자 하는 컬렉션입니다. 미라빌리는 60년대 이탈리아 디자인의 주역인 Sergio Cammilli의 경험과 인식을 바탕으로 80년대중반에 만들어졌습니다. 또 다른 전문가 및 예술가들과의 소통을 통해 오래된 것을 현대적인 감각으로 만들어 삶의 예술을 새롭게 했고 생산을 위한 실험실에 생명을 불어넣었습니다.

Q. 미라빌리재단과 예술가들과의 관계가 궁금합니다.
A. Formitalia 그룹은 2002년에 가구컬렉션인 Mirabili Arte d'Abitare 브랜드를 소유하게 되었고 주로 석재로 만든 작품인 ‘multipli d'arte’를 구입했습니다. 이 컬렉션에는 Barni, Cammilli, Ceroli 등 36명의 국제아티스트가 서명한 한정판 복제품이 포함되어 있습니다. 미라빌리컬렉션은 1986년 역사적인 Datini궁전에서 Electa의 카탈로그와 함께 이탈리아 Prato에서 처음으로 발표되었으며 Prato, Florence 및 Tuscany 문화평의회 후원을 받았습니다. 그후 파리의 조르주 퐁피두센터, 시드니의 비엔날레미술전시회, 베로나의 ‘Abitare il Tempo’전, 그로닝거미술관, 런던의 이탈리아아카데미 등 여러 곳에서 발표되었습니다.

Q. 네오퓨처리즘의 이상은 무엇인가?
A. 네오퓨처리즘의 개념은 기본적으로 주요 요소인 속도, 액션, 새로운 더 빠른 삶, 움직이는 모든 것, 기계의 힘, 불안한 삶, 그리고 마르코 로돌라의 창의적인 작업에 의해 추가된 새로운 핵심요소의 혼합입니다. 마르코 로돌라는 80년대 다른 예술가들과 함께 ‘네오퓨처리즘’ 운동을 창조하기 위해 ‘원조 미래주의운동’(The original Futurism)의 핵심 가치와 자신의 현대적 비전을 혼합하고 ‘미니멀리즘’과 POP의 개념적 접근을 통해 매우 독특한 스타일을 갖게 되었습니다. 즉, 매우 이탈리아적인 개인주의적 창의성 감각을 유지하면서도 동시에 세계화된 현대적 비전을 결합했습니다.

Q. 마르코 로돌라와 함께 참여하는 아티스트가 있습니까?
A. 네, 미라빌리그룹의 일원으로 많은 다른 아티스트들이 로돌라와 함께 미라빌리가 추구하는 ‘ART FOR LIVING'을 중심으로 콜라보레이션하고 있습니다. 주요 아티스트는 Barni, Cammilli, Ceroli, Corneli, Crema, De Poli, Fallani, Lodola, Mendini, Natalini, Ontani, Portoghesi, Purini, Ruggiero, Santachiara, Sottsass, Tolomeo, Palma, Villani 등입니다.

Q. What is the main reason for planning this exhibition here in Seoul?

A. This Lodola exhibition is been put together thinking at the similarity between the Italian and Korean life style and love for Art and beautiful things in general. we though that Lodola was the perfect artist in order to connect our 2 cultural and intellectual traditions. Lodola vision and message is playing with simple shapes, colors and light in order to create a much more sophisticated message to send across to the viewers… but the ‘entry door’ is ‘immediate’, very easy to ‘reed’, emotionally strong but also very ‘clear’… So, Lodola message is basically: Love, Peace, Serenity and harmony… and we know that Coreans understand and appreciate a lot these ‘principals’.

Q. Please could introduce what is Mirabili Foundation, and what are its main activities?

A. The message that Mirabili intends to portay involves well-known artist and designers, selected for their particular gifts and their poetic world, lending an innovative and sensitive contribution to the cultural image of the habitat as “Art of Living”. It is a collection which wants to communicate with art, by means of visions and emotions: a quality that justifies its meaningful presence in museums, art galleries and in collections of qualified collectors.

New free art is becoming an eeryday item, even though is it abstract and poetic; it is changeable in that is applied without prejudices and circulated without inibitions through living spaces. It corresponds ever more to the idea and ideals of need. It enters dwellings not merely to be looked at, but also to interact in the life and with the wishes of people; not only to decorate but also to animate; it cannot be confined to a frame or a stand, and its challenge is to introduce fragments of aesthetic utopia beyond the temple of the Muses, into the home of man.

MIRABILI was created in the mid eighties as the synthesis of the experiences and perceptions of Sergio Cammilli, a protagonist of Italian design of the sixties. Interaction with other experts and artists gave life to a theoretical, practical and productive laboratory, as an initial and highly original phenomenon in renewing the Art of Living with a modern feeling for the old.

Q. Are the Mirabili Foundation and Marco Lodola relationship, a collector and artist relationship?

A. In 2002 Formitalia bought the brand Mirabili Arte d’Abitare, the collection of furniture and of “multipli d’arte” that are works made of stone, mainly furnishing vases, available in several numbered samples with the same sizes and form, that Sergio Cammilli created in 1980. This collection includes works, which are reproduced in a limited edition, signed by 36 international artists such as Barni, Cammilli, Ceroli, Corneli, Crema, De Poli, Fallani, Lodola, Mendini, Natalini, Ontani, Portoghesi, Purini, Ruggiero, Santachiara, Sottsass, Tolomeo, Palma, Villani.

The MIRABILI collection was presented for the first time in Prato (Italy), in 1986 in the historical Datini Palace with a catalogue by Electa and sponsored by the Councillorship for Culture of the Council of Prato, by the Province of Florence and by the Tuscan Region. Subsequently it has been shown, upon invitation, at the George Pompidou Centre in Paris, at the Biennial Art Exhibition in Sydney, at the exhibition “Abitare il Tempo” in Verona, in the Groninger Museum, at the Italian Academy in London, at “das Goldenezeitung” in Stuttgart, in the Museo Ideale Leonardo da Vinci, in the Denver Art Museum, at the Frankfurter Kunstverein, and at Stiftung Villa Stuck in Munich, Museum of Modern Art Ljubljana and Museum Marino Marini Pistoia.

Q. What is the ideal of Neo-Futurism?

A. The concept of neo Futurism, is basically a blend of the main elements of the original Futurism: speed, action, new faster life, everything in motion, power of machines, restless life, plus new key points, added by Marco Lodola’s creative work and his conceptual approach angle, almost 70 years after the ‘original Futurism movement’ and all the other many Italian and International modern and contemporary Artistic forms of representations born through these past 7 decades that Lodola studied and was part of, through his entire life, brought him with other Artists, in the 80s, to create the ‘New Futurism’ movement, blending the key conceptual values of the original Futurism movement, with his own contemporary advanced vision, and adding also some others strong creative aspects like the ‘minimalism and the POP conceptual approach’. With this formula, Lodola is been able to generate a very unique style, maintaining a very Italian sense of individualistic creativity but also bringing together a contemporary globalized vision.

Q. Are there any other artists that Marco Rodola works together? If yes, who?

A. As part of the ‘Mirabili’ group, yes, many other artists are collaborating together to Lodola, in the main ‘Mirabili concept of, ART FOR LIVING’. Artist like: Barni, Cammilli, Ceroli, Corneli, Crema, De Poli, Fallani, Lodola, Mendini, Natalini, Ontani, Portoghesi, Purini, Ruggiero, Santachiara, Sottsass, Tolomeo, Palma, Villani.
