여름 태양이 저물기 시작하고 가을의 바람이 카자흐스탄 초원을 가로지를 때, 아스타나는 9월 8일부터 13일까지 제5회 세계 유목민 대회를 개최하며 우리 유목 조상들의 정신으로 활기를 띌 것입니다. 이 행사는 우리의 수도를 문화, 경쟁, 그리고 우정의 활기찬 무대로 변모시킬 것입니다. 저는 대한민국 국민 여러분을 이 장대한 행사에 초대하게 되어 매우 기쁩니다.

공식 초대장은 2024년 1월 20일 강원도에서 열린 제4회 동계 청소년 올림픽 대회에서 예르멕 마르지크파예프 (Ermek Marzhikpayev) 카자흐스탄 관광체육부 장관이 유인촌 대한민국 문화체육관광부 장관에게 전달했습니다.

우리에게 이 대회는 세계에 올림픽만큼 중요합니다. 이 대회는 유목민 문화의 회복력, 창의성, 전통을 증명하는 것입니다. 세계에게는 유목민들의 문화와 역사를 배우고 기념할 수 있는 기회를 제공합니다. 이 대회는 우리의 정체성을 형성하고 우리의 삶의 방식을 계속해서 영향을 미치는 유산에 대한 독특한 창을 제공합니다.

2014년 처음 개최된 카자흐스탄에서의 제5회 세계 유목민 대회는 약 100개국에서 2,500명 이상의 참가자를 모을 것입니다. 대규모 글로벌 행사를 개최한 경험이 있는 국가로서 카자흐스탄은 국내외 관광객 10만 명 이상을 맞이하여 우리 문화를 기념하고 국제 우정을 도모할 것입니다.

세계 유목민 대회의 핵심 측면은 고대 스포츠와 문화적 관행의 보존입니다. 유목민 문화는 전 세계적으로 널리 알려지지 않았습니다. 이 대회는 방문객들이 희귀한 스포츠를 목격하고 우리의 전통에 몰입할 수 있게 함으로써 이를 변화시킬 것입니다. 아스타나에서는 승마, 전통 지능 게임, 무술 대회, 민족 새 사냥 및 기타 민속 게임을 포함하여 21종의 스포츠가 전시될 것입니다.

가장 기대되는 이벤트 중 하나는 코크파르 (Kokpar)입니다. 이 스포츠는 폴로와 유사하지만 독특한 유목민의 변형을 가지고 있습니다. 말에 탄 팀들이 염소 사체를 차지하기 위해 경쟁하며, 놀라운 기술, 힘, 전략을 보여줍니다. 이 스포츠는 다른 많은 게임들과 함께 우리 문화에서 말이 중심적인 역할을 했음을 강조합니다. 말은 일상생활에서 이주, 전쟁, 사냥, 무역에 이르기까지 필수적인 동반자였습니다. 카자흐스탄 사람들은 약 5,500년 전 오늘날의 카자흐스탄 지역에서 처음으로 말이 가축화되었다는 사실에 자부심을 느낍니다. 사실, 말은 카자흐스탄 사람들의 일곱 가지 성스러운 보물 중 하나로 여겨집니다. 이 오래된 카자흐스탄 사람들과 그들의 말 사이의 유대감은 게임의 승마 이벤트를 통해 생생하게 재현될 것입니다.

코크파르 외에도 관객들은 활쏘기, 레슬링, 독수리 사냥과 같은 다양한 전통 스포츠를 즐길 수 있을 것입니다. 각 스포츠는 고유의 역사적 중요성을 지니며 중앙아시아의 광활하고 도전적인 환경에서 번영하기 위해 조상들이 연마한 다양한 기술을 보여줍니다.

또한 과거와 현재가 만나 전통이 조화롭게 어우러지는 독특한 '에스노아울(Ethnoaul)'에서는 일일 문화행사도 진행됩니다. 여기서 방문객들은 카자흐스탄 수공예품의 최대 박람회에서 장인들의 작품을 감상하고 매력적인 마스터 클래스에서 그들의 비밀을 배울 수 있습니다.

문화 프로그램의 하이라이트 중 하나는 전통 음악 대회인 아이티스 (Aitys)입니다. 여기서 유명한 아키인(카자흐스탄 민속 시인 및 가수)들이 창의성과 경쟁 정신이 결합된 시적 대결을 펼쳐 관객을 사로잡습니다. 한편, 패션 애호가들은 민족 의상 샘플로 꾸며진 런웨이가 있는 민족 패션 페스티벌을 즐길 수 있습니다.

국가 요리 축제는 방문객들이 전통 카자흐 요리와 음료를 준비하는 방법을 배울 수 있는 마스터 클래스를 제공하고 카자흐 사람들의 유명한 환대와 따뜻함을 직접 경험할 수 있는 감각의 향연이 될 것을 약속합니다.

윤석열 대통령의 역사적인 카자흐스탄 국빈 방문 기간 동안 문화, 관광 및 청년 교류가 주요 의제였습니다. 토카예프 대통령은 양국 간의 진정한 우정을 감안할 때 인적 관계를 강화하는 것이 중요하다고 강조했습니다.

Embrace the Spirit of the Steppes at the World Nomad Games

It is widely recognised that preserving cultural heritage is crucial, as it shapes a nation’s identity and defines its future. Countries around the world have maintained historical sites, protected languages, and conserved natural sites. In Central Asia, the protection of cultural heritage is equally important, given the region’s rich and diverse history, which dates back to the 3rd millennium BCE.

As the summer sun begins its descent and the breeze of autumn sweeps across the Kazakh steppe, Astana will come alive with the spirit of our nomadic ancestors as we host the Fifth World Nomad Games from September 8-13. This event will transform our vibrant capital into a bustling arena of culture, competition, and camaraderie. I am thrilled to extend a heartfelt invitation to the people of the Republic of Korea to join us in celebrating this grand event.

The official invitation was handed over to Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea, Mr. Yu In-chon, by Minister of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Ermek Marzhikpayev, on January 20, 2024, on the margins of the IV Winter Youth Olympic Games in Gangwon.

For us, these Games are as significant as the Olympics are to the world. They are a testament to the resilience, ingenuity, and traditions of the nomadic cultures. For the world, they are an opportunity to learn about and celebrate the culture and history of nomadic peoples. They offer a unique window into the heritage that has shaped our identity and continues to influence our way of life.

The Fifth World Nomad Games in Kazakhstan, first held in 2014, will bring together over 2500 participants from around 100 countries. As a country experienced in hosting major global events, Kazakhstan looks forward to welcoming over 100,000 domestic and foreign tourists to celebrate our culture and foster international friendship.

A key aspect of the World Nomad Games is the preservation of ancient sports and cultural practices. The culture of nomadic peoples has not been widely popularised globally so far. These games will change this by allowing visitors to witness rare sports and become immersed in our traditions. Twenty-one kinds of sports will be on display in Astana, including horse racing, traditional intellectual games, martial arts competitions, national bird hunting, and other folk games.

One of the most anticipated events is Kokpar, a thrilling and dynamic sport akin to polo, but with a distinctly nomadic twist. Teams on horseback vie for control of a goat carcass, displaying remarkable skill, strength, and strategy. This sport, along with many others featured at the Games, highlights the central role of horses in our culture. They were indispensable companions in daily life, including for migration, warfare, hunting, and trade. Kazakh people hold the distinguished honour of the fact that horses were first domesticated around 5,500 years ago within what is now modern-day Kazakhstan. In fact, horses are considered one of the seven sacred treasures of the Kazakh people. This long-standing bond between Kazakhs and their steeds will be vividly brought to life through the equestrian events at the Games.

In addition to Kokpar, spectators will be treated to a variety of traditional sports such as archery, wrestling, and eagle hunting. Each sport carries its own historical significance and showcases the diverse skills honed by our ancestors to thrive in the vast and challenging landscapes of Central Asia.

Moreover, daily cultural events will be held at the unique “Ethnoaul,” where the past will meet the present in a harmonious display of tradition. Here, visitors will be able to marvel at the largest exhibition-fair of Kazakh craftsmanship, where master artisans will display their works and share the secrets of their craft through engaging master classes.

One of the highlights of the cultural programme is Aitys, the traditional musical competition of akyns (Kazakh folk poets and singers). This poetic duel, where leading and novice aityskers (participants in Aitys) showcase their wit and lyrical prowess, is a beloved tradition that continues to captivate audiences with its blend of creativity and competitive spirit. Meanwhile, fashion enthusiasts will be delighted by the ethnic fashion festival, featuring a runway adorned with samples of ethnic clothing.

The festival of national cuisine promises to be a feast for the senses, offering master classes where visitors can learn to prepare traditional Kazakh dishes and beverages, experiencing firsthand the renowned hospitality and warmth of the Kazakh people.

During the historic state visit of H.E. President Yoon Suk Yeol to Kazakhstan, cultural, tourist and youth engagement were prominent on the agenda. H.E. President Tokayev emphasized the importance of enhancing people-to-people ties, given the genuine friendship between the two nations.

The World Nomad Games this September promise to be an unforgettable experience, blending the thrill of competition with the richness of cultural heritage. The event offers a chance to strengthen cultural ties among nations. As a country that is home to over 100 ethnicities and one that values inter-ethnic harmony, we look forward to welcoming people from all over the world to Astana, where the spirit of the nomads lives on.
