[아츠앤컬쳐] WILD GENE FESTIVAL은 음악 예술 축제다. 첫 페스티벌은 2025년 8월 1일 벨기에 Genk에 위치한 Koen Vanmechelen의 LABIOMISTA에서 개최된다. 이 행사는 Vanmechelen과 세네갈의 전설적인 음악가이자 사회운동가인 Youssou N'Dour가 설립했다. 

다양성과 협력이 혁신의 핵심이자 활력과 진보의 근본적 요건이라는 공통된 신념에서 시작된 이 페스티벌은 라이브 음악, 시각 예술, 그리고 대중이 생동감 있게 어우러진 축제다. 이 페스티벌의 핵심은 Vanmechelen이 Youssou N’Dour와 그의 풀 밴드 Le Super Étoile de Dakar와 함께 9m 크기의 그림을 실시간으로 제작하는 독특한 라이브 공연이다. 이 페스티벌은 유명 방송인이자 저널리스트인 Kirsty Wark가 진행을 맡는다. 페스티벌은 무료이지만, 수용 인원이 제한되어 있으며 선착순으로 온라인 등록을 받는다.

와일드 진 페스티벌은 무료 야외 축제이지만 수용 인원이 제한되어 있어서 축제 입장권이 필요하다. 무료 티켓은 WildGeneFestivalFriend.eventbrite.com에서 선착순으로 받을 수 있다.

Youssou N'Dour는 "Wild Gene Festival은 음악이 우리를 하나로 묶는 힘에서 탄생했습니다. 우리를 감동시키고, 영감을 주고, 국경을 넘어 하나로 모으는 힘 말입니다. Koen과 저는 창조의 변화하는 에너지에 대한 공통된 믿음을 통해 만났습니다. 우리는 함께 존중, 기쁨, 그리고 열린 마음으로 다양성을 기념하며 세상을 초대합니다."라고 말했다. 

Koen Vanmechelen은 "우리는 모두 연결을 찾는 노마드입니다. Youssou와 저는 만났을 때 서로에게 공통된 믿음을 느꼈습니다. 창의성, 존중, 그리고 다양성이 우리의 생존에 필수적이라는 것입니다. 와일드 진 페스티벌은 바로 그러한 만남에서 탄생했습니다. 개방성과 예술로 형성된 이 공간에서 우리를 하나로 묶는 것을 기념하며, 다른 사람들도 함께 참여하도록 하는 살아있는 초대입니다."라고 말했다. 

Wild Gene Festival is a one-day celebration of identity, creativity and the transformative power of art and music. The inaugural edition will take place on 1 August 2025 at LABIOMISTA—Koen Vanmechelen’s 24-hectare evolving work of art in Genk, Belgium—the gathering is founded by Vanmechelen and legendary Senegalese musician and activist Youssou N'Dour.  

Born from a shared belief in diversity and collaboration as the key to innovation and a fundamental requirement for vitality and progress, Wild Gene Festival is a vibrant fusion of live music, visual art, and public dialogue. Central to the festival is a unique live performance in which Vanmechelen will create a 9-metre painting in real time as Youssou N’Dour performs with his full band Le Super Étoile de Dakar. The festival will be hosted by acclaimed broadcaster and journalist Kirsty Wark. The festival is free but capacity is limited and on a first come first serve online registration basis.

The festival draws inspiration from Vanmechelen’s Cosmopolitan Renaissance, a global worldview rooted in biocultural diversity, interdependence and creativity, as well as from N'Dour’s latest album Éclairer le Monde (Light the World), which calls for transformation through music. It invites global communities to come together in conversation and action around unity, diversity, and respect.  

Additional programming will include a performance by the Hope Masike Trio, led by Masike on the Mbira. Her music blends the Zimbabwean traditional Thumb piano with jazz, gospel, and her own compositions, creating a hybrid style that is uniquely her own. Her live performances fluidly move between traditional and contemporary sounds, offering a rich and dynamic musical experience.

The festival expands into NOMADLAND, a gathering space created by the local community inspired by Koen Vanmechelen and in collaboration with the city of Genk. Visitors can enjoy food and drinks throughout the day, including WILD GENE—an on-tap cosmopolitan beer brewed to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Vanmechelen’s iconic Cosmopolitan Chicken Project.
