[아츠앤컬쳐] 훈데르트바서는 유럽에서 가장 유명한 현대 예술가이자 디자이너 중 한 명이다. 그는 아파트 건축에서 시작하여 스파와 산업 단지 등의 리모델링 또는 신축 공사에 과감하고 색다른 접근 방식을 택했다. 한편으로 편안한 환경을 조성하면서 또 다른 한편으로는 건설 및 건축업자로서 디자이너와 소유주 또는 세입자, 고객, 의뢰인, 근로자 등의 입장을 잘 반영했다.

그의 모든 건축과 리모델링은 자연의 영향과 환경 친화적인 제품 및 재료의 사용을 기반으로 한다. 비엔나의 첫 아파트 건물은 각 세대마다 다른 예술가 디자이너가 만들었으며 그 중 어느 것도 내부 및 외양에서 동일한 형태를 찾아볼 수 없다. 세대마다 각기 다른 창문을 가지고 있으며, 일부는 테라스가 있거나, 발코니, 로지아(한쪽만 벽이 있는 복도), 둥근 창문, 직사각형, 또는 삼각형이 있고 옥상 정원이나, 발코니의 나무 등 다양한 디자인과 아이디어가 담겨 있다. 그는 각기 다른 아이디어가 담긴 전반적인 계획 아래 완전한 개념으로 통합시켰다.

이 첫 번째 집은 2차 세계 대전의 마지막 몇 주 동안 엄청난 피해를 입은 비엔나 제3구의 전통적인 거주지역에 위치하며 많은 집들이 파괴되어 같은 방식으로 재건축되었다. 비엔나의 스카이라인은 회색의 스카이라인으로, 색상에 차이가 거의 없고 스타일도 약간씩 다를 뿐이었다. 대부분의 건물은 거의 같아 보였고 신선한 색채가 필요했다. 그 무렵 놀랍게도 새로운 디자인으로 밝은 색상과 색다른 타일을 사용하여 직선 모퉁이가 없는 이 집이 생겨난 것이다.

자연과 인간의 조화를 이루는 건축을 기반으로 한 이 새로운 집을 만드는 아이디어는 전 오스트리아 연방수상(전 오스트리아총리)이자 사회민주당원 브루노 크라이스키(Bruno Kreisky)에게서 나왔다고 한다. 그는 아마 오스트리아에서 가장 성공한 사회주의 지도자일 것이다. 그는 작은 중립국으로 세계무대에서 도덕적, 정치적으로 중요한 역할을 담당한 인물로, 비엔나의 레오폴트 그라츠(Leopold Gratz) 시장에게 훈데르트바서를 추천하여 그가 건축 분야에서 자신의 생각을 실현할 기회를 얻어 주택 프로젝트를 시행할 수 있도록 했다.

Gratz 박사는 이 추천을 받아 들여 훈데르트바서에게 기존 법규를 벗어나있는 그의 철학을 펼쳐 각 디자이너와 건축가마다 매우 강한 특징이 있는 주택을 짓도록 허락했다. 그 후, 훈데르트바서와 그의 동업자의 디자인과 유사한 스타일의 집들이 독일, 그리스, 폴란드 등 유럽에 많이 건축되었다.

프리드리히 스토바서Friedrich Stowasser(예명 Friedensreich Regentag Dunkelbunt Hundertwasser)는 1924년 비엔나에서 태어났다. 1950년대 초, 그는 쇠락해가는 자연 형태에 바탕을 둔 건축에 집중했다. 그는 나무가 우거진 옥상의 아이디어를 선보였다. “나무 세입자”는 그가 지은 새로운 집에서 볼 수 있다.

Friedensreich Hundertwasser

Hundertwasser is one of the most well-known artist and designer of the modern times in Europe. With his radical different approach of remodelling or new constructions from apartment house over a spa to industrial complex he created an environment of comfort for different sides, on one side to construction and builder, on the other side the designer and the owner or tenant, customer, client, workers, etc.

All of his constructions or remodelling are based on natural influrance and by using of
environment friendly products and materials. At the first apartment house in Vienna, different artist-designer created each apartment, none of these apartment looks the same from inside and outside. Each apartment has different windows, some have terraces, some balcony, some loggias, some round windows, some rectangular, some three angle and many different other design ideas, eg roof garden, trees on Balcony, etc. He made the overall concept and let die individual idea stay and integrated these into the complete concept.

This first house is located in a traditional living area in Vienna’s 3rddistrict, a district which suffered strongly during the last few weeks of the 2nd World War, many houses were destroyed and were rebuild in the same way. The skyline of Vienna is a skyline of grey in grey, very little colour differences and little difference in style. Most of the buildings looks pretty much the same and need fresh paint. Then suddenly a house, different in design, bright colours with different tiles and not to may sharp corners.

The idea of creating this new house based on architecture in harmony with nature and man was coming from the legend of the former federal chancellor (Austrian position for prime Minister) Dr. Bruno Kreisky, a Social Democrat, perhaps Austria's most successful Socialist leader, and a figure who parlayed a small country's neutrality into a major moral and political role on the world stage, suggested to the mayor of Vienna Dr. Leopold Gratz that Hundertwasser shall be given the opportunity to realize his ideas in the field of architecture by allowing him to build a housing project.

Dr. Gratz accepted the recommendation and given Hundertwasser the opportunity to build a house according this philosophy outside the existing regulations which are very strong and binding for each designer and architect. Many houses similar in style made by Hundertwasser or in co-work with Hundertwasser design were built over Europe, eg. Germany, Greece, Poland, etc.

Under his pseudonym Friedensreich Regentag Dunkelbunt Hundertwasser (Born 1924 in Vienna as Friedrich Stowasser) started as a painter. In the early 1950s, he focused on architecture based on natural forms of decay. He introduced his ideas on forested roofs, "tree tenants" which where integrated into the new house.
