[아츠앤컬쳐] 시칠리아 서부 해안에 위치한 트라파니 시는 시칠리아 섬에서 가장 큰 도시 중 하나이다. 웅장한 건축물들로 둘러싸여 있고 바로 앞에 바다가 펼쳐진 트라파니의 구도심에서는 바로크 건축의 경이로움을 느낄 수 있으며, 트라파니 주변 지역은 더욱 아름답다.

역사 전반에 걸쳐 트라파니 지역은 여러 문명의 영향을 받았는데, 그 중 가장 주목할만한 것은 그리스, 아랍, 노르만, 스페인 문명으로, 이들의 건축 양식이 트라파니 지역과 완벽한 조화를 이루고 있다. 이 지역에서는 기원전 4세기로 거슬러 올라가는 고대 그리스 도시인 세제스타(Segesta)의 유적지에서 그리스 식민지 시대의 증거를 볼 수 있는데, 가장 잘 보존된 그리스 신전 중 하나와 원형 극장이 있다. 이 극장에서는 오늘날에도 여전히 그리스 비극 작품들이 공연된다.

시칠리아에서 가장 오래된 도시 중 하나는 에리체(Erice)이다. 유명한 물리학자 안토니노 치키키(Antonino Zichichi)가 태어난 곳이기도 한다. 이곳은 트라파니 북쪽의 산 정상에 위치해 있으며, 트라파니 시와 에리체를 연결하는 케이블카를 타고 갈 수 있다. 산 꼭대기에 오르면 트라파니 시가지와 해안, 에가디 제도가 360도로 펼쳐지는 놀라운 풍경을 감상할 수 있다. 에리체는 2014년 이탈리아에서 가장 아름다운 역사 유적 마을 상을 수상했는데, 이 곳에 첫 발을 내딛는 순간 그 이유를 알게 된다. 마을은 시간이 멈춘 듯한 중세풍의 분위기로 둘러싸여 있고, “비너스의 성”에서 바라보는 해안 풍경은 그 무엇과도 비교할 수 없는 절경이다.

트라파니 지역의 해변은 시칠리아 섬 전체에서 가장 아름다운 해변 중 하나로, 수정처럼 맑고 투명한 물이 오염되지 않은 주변 지역을 감싸고 있다. 특히, 유명한 “산 비토 로 카포(San Vito lo Capo)” 해변은 물론, 야생의 매력을 고스란히 간직하고 있는 “마카리(Macari)” 만(灣), 자연 보호 구역인 “징가로(Zingaro)”는 확실히 가볼 만한 가치가 있다.

페리를 타고 갈 수 있는 트라파니 앞바다의 청정한 섬 파비냐나(Favignana)는 또 하나의 작은 천국으로, 이 지역에서 단연코 가장 멋진 해변을 자랑한다. 파비냐나 섬은 아주 조그마해서 모든 방문객이 자전거를 타고 돌아다니며 환상적인 풍경과 자연의 색조를 감상할 수 있다.

트라파니는 다양한 요리로도 유명하다. 트라파니 파스타는 꽈배기 모양으로 된 긴 마카로니 종류인 “부시아테(Busiate)”로도 알려져 있는데, 트라파니 특유의 파스타이다. 부시아테에 주로 사용되는 소스인 “페스토 트라파네제”는 방울토마토, 바질, 마늘, 아몬드, 파르마산 치즈를 넣어 만든다. 이 지역의 또 다른 특산품은 세몰리나 가루 알갱이를 찐 쿠스쿠스를 넣은 지중해 요리, 생선 쿠스쿠스이다.

트라파니 지역의 디저트로는 튀긴 도넛을 반으로 잘라 맛있고 달콤한 리코타 치즈를 듬뿍 넣은 “그라파(Graffa)”가 유명하다. 결론적으로 말해서, 위대하고 놀라운 유적지와 환상적인 해변이 어우러진 완벽한 여름 여행을 원한다면 트라파니 해안이야말로 여러분이 찾고 있는 최적의 장소일 것이다.

TRAPANI SURROUNDINGS

Situated on the western coast of Sicily, Trapani is one of the largest cities in the island. The historic center of Trapani, which is surrounded by magnificent structures and sits directly in front of the sea, is a marvel of baroque architecture, and the surroundings are even of greater beauty.

Throughout history, the territory of Trapani has been influenced by a number of civilizations, the most notable of which were the Greek, Arab, Norman, and Spanish, whose architecture is perfectly blended into the Trapani region. In the area, evidence of Greek colonization may be seen in the historic site of Segesta, an old Greek city that dates back to the fourth century B.C. and is home to one of the best-preserved Greek temples, as well as a Greek theater that is still used today to perform Greek tragedies.

One of the most ancient towns of the region is the city of Erice, the birthplace of the renowned physician Antonino Zichichi. It is situated on the summit of the mountain above Trapani, where you can take a cable car to reach Erice. Being at the top of the mountain, the 360-degree view of the city of Trapani, the coast, and the Egadi Islands is simply astonishing. Erice won the prize for the most beautiful historical village in Italy in 2014, and the moment you take the first step in the city, you will understand the reason. The city is surrounded by a medieval atmosphere where time seems to have stopped, and the view of the shore you get from the ‘Castle of Venus’ is unmatched.

The beaches in the Trapani area are among the most picturesque in all of Sicily, with crystal-clear water submerged in uncontaminated surroundings. Specifically, it is worthwhile to see the natural area of "Macari" and the natural reserve "Zingaro", as well as the famous San Vito lo Capo beach.

The island of Favignana, a pristine paradise in front of Trapani that is accessible by ferry, has surely the nicest beaches in the area. Because Favignana is so small, nearly all visitors get around only by bike to admire its wonderful landscapes and colors.

Trapani is renowned for its diverse cuisine. Trapani pasta, known as "Busiate", a long variety of macaroni with a helical structure, is unique to Trapani. Busiate's primary sauce, "Pesto Trapanese", is a blend of cherry tomatoes, basil, garlic, almonds, and parmesan cheese. Another specialty of the area, is fish couscous, a Mediterrean dish made from tiny steamed ball of semolina flour. Talking about desserts, the Trapani region is famous for the so-called ‘Graffa’, a fried dough cut in half and filled with delicious sweet ricotta.
