[아츠앤컬쳐] 중국 동북부의 지린성(길림성)은 랴오닝성, 헤이룽장성, 내몽골자치구와 인접하고, 국제적으로는 러시아, 북한과 국경을 마주하는 동북아시아의 중심에 자리한다. 지린성은 다양한 민족과 문화가 공존하며 풍부한 문화유산을 보유하고 있다. 특히 전통적인 민속 예술은 이 지역의 전통과 문화를 잘 반영하고, 지린의 다채로운 매력을 잘 보여주며 예술분야에서도 독특한 아름다움을 지니고 있다.

지린성의 수도인 창춘시(장춘시)는 동북아의 지역적 특성을 활용하여 20여 년간 동북아박람회, 동북아예술제 등 다양한 문화활동을 통해 대중문화 활성화와 시민들에게 고품격 문화 보급을 위해 노력하고 있다. 그 중에 특히 ‘다채로운 밤 지린’을 주제로 한 ‘지린여름예술축제’가 가장 인기가 많다. 지린성 문화관광청은 매년 7월 ‘상쾌한 지린·22℃의 여름’이라는 모토로 ‘지린여름예술축제’를 개최하고 있다. 최초의 동북아예술제로 시작된 이 축제는 현재 많은 사람들이 피서를 위해 찾는 지린성의 문화관광 브랜드로 자리매김하였다.

이 축제에는 지난 10여 년간 국내외 600여 개의 공연 단체가 참여하여 수천만 명의 관객들에게 온라인과 오프라인으로 1,000여 회의 문화 공연을 선보였다. ‘다채로운 밤 지린’은 창춘 주요극장과 국가 4A급 관광지, 상업단지 등에서 전문적인 야외 무대를 마련하여 국내외 문화예술의 관람 기회를 제공하며, 다양한 문화와 상호 교류 및 아름다운 문화예술을 감상할 수 있다. 축제 기간에는 매일 밤 무료로 지린의 민속극과 중국 전통극을 제공하여 지린의 문화를 세계에 알리고 있다.

축제는 국내외 유명 예술단체를 초청하여 전통극, 무용극, 음악극, 교향곡, 서커스, 곡예, 연극, 아동극, 전통 공연, 밴드 공연, 시 낭송회, 전시 등의 작품을 소개하는데, 그 예로, 미국 브로드웨이의 <리버댄스>, 애리조나 소년합창단 <천상의 소리>, 러시아 발레 <백조의 호수>, 한국 오페라 <투란도트> 등 해외 수십 개국 우수 작품들이 공연되기도 하였다.

지린성 정부는 ‘다채로운 밤 지린’을 ‘축제 중의 축제’로 만들어, ‘지린무형문화유산축제’, ‘창춘피서레저축제’ 등과 함께 7월부터 한 달간 창춘에서 진행한다. 더불어, 미술 사진전 및 관광설명회도 개최하고, 각종 미디어를 동원하여 다각도로 홍보 캠페인을 전개한다. ‘다채로운 밤 지린’은 지린성의 문화관광과 야간경제 발전을 촉진시키며 지린 특색의 축제 운영 모델을 형성하여 문화 강성을 추진하는데 중요한 역할을 하고 있다.

지린성은 여름에 덥지 않고 시원한 피서를 즐길 수 있으며, 가을에는 아름다운 단풍을 감상할 수 있고, 겨울에는 스키 등 다양한 체험 활동을 즐길 수 있어 중국의 생태환경 자연보호구역으로도 지정되었다. 또한 풍부한 자연수를 활용한 온천도 즐길 수 있는 아름다운 지역이다. 지린성은 아름다운 자연경관, 풍부한 문화유산, 그리고 다양한 민속 및 민족 문화를 바탕으로 세계와 긴밀한 소통을 유지하고 있으며, 앞으로도 지속적인 교류를 기대한다.

'Jilin's Vibrant Nights' Jilin Summer Arts Festival 

Jilin Province, located in northeastern China, borders Liaoning Province, Heilongjiang Province, and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Internationally, it shares borders with Russia and North Korea. The province is home to diverse ethnic groups and cultures, boasting a rich cultural heritage. In particular, traditional folk arts reflect the region’s history and traditions, showcasing Jilin’s unique charm and artistic beauty.

Changchun, the capital of Jilin Province, has leveraged its regional characteristics to host various cultural events over the past two decades, including the Northeast Asia Expo and the Northeast Asia Arts Festival. These efforts aim to promote popular culture and provide high-quality cultural experiences for its citizens. Among these events, the "Jilin Summer Arts Festival," themed "Jilin's Vibrant Nights," is the most popular. Organized by the Jilin Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, the festival is held every July under the slogan "Refreshing Jilin · Summer at 22°C." Originally launched as the Northeast Asia Arts Festival, it has now become a cultural and tourism brand that attracts many visitors seeking a summer retreat.

Over the past decade, more than 600 domestic and international performing groups have participated in the festival, staging over 1,000 cultural performances for millions of spectators both online and offline. "Jilin's Vibrant Nights" features professional outdoor stages set up in Changchun’s major theaters, national 4A-level tourist attractions, and commercial districts. These venues offer opportunities to experience domestic and international cultural performances, facilitating cultural exchange and appreciation of the arts. Every evening during the festival, Jilin’s traditional folk theater and Chinese classical opera are performed for free, introducing Jilin’s culture to the world.

The festival invites renowned domestic and international artistic groups to present a variety of performances, including traditional theater, dance dramas, musicals, symphonies, circus acts, acrobatics, plays, children's performances, traditional music, band performances, poetry readings, and exhibitions. Notable past performances include ‘Riverdance’ from Broadway, the Arizona Boys Choir’s ‘Voices of Heaven’, the Russian ballet ‘Swan Lake’, and the Korean opera ‘Turandot’, among other outstanding productions from dozens of countries.

Jilin aims to make “Jilin's Vibrant Nights” the “festival of all festivals.” It runs in July alongside events like the Jilin Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival and Changchun Summer Leisure Festival. Additional exhibitions, tourism briefings, and media campaigns further enhance its reach.

With cool summers, autumn foliage, winter skiing, and natural hot springs, Jilin is a top ecological destination. Combining stunning landscapes and rich traditions, it continues to foster global cultural exchanges.
