[아츠앤컬쳐] 비엘리츠카(Wieliczka) 소금광산은 수 세대에 걸쳐 전세계의 방문객들을 끌어들인 전설적 관광지다. 이 지하의 보물이 특유의 독특한 분위기로 사람들을 끌어 모으는지 그 이유는 명확하다.

무엇이 비엘리츠카 소금광산을 특별하게 하는가?
1978년에 유네스코 세계문화유산에 등재된 비엘리츠카 소금광산은 가치를 매길 수 없는 유형문화재다. 더군다나 그 규모도 거대하다. 700년 이상의 세월에 걸쳐 비엘리츠카에 26개의 갱도가 뚫렸고 9백만㎡의 갱도가 발굴되었다. 관광 경로는 3.5km이고,
64m~135m 깊이에 위치한 20개의 방들로 이루어져 있다. 일반인들에게는 소금 미로의 단 2%만이 개방되어 있다.

지하 101m로 내려가면 관광객들은 비엘리츠카에서 가장 아름다운 성 킹가 예배당을 볼 수 있다. 크리스탈 샹들리에에 반사되어 눈부시게 빛나는 소금 조각과 부조를 감상하고 아름다운 소금 바닥을 자세히 관찰하고, 작은 조각들의 디테일에 주목해 보자. 이 작은 조각들 하나하나가 모여 잊을 수 없는 분위기를 만든다.

비엘리츠카 소금 광산은 15세기부터 관광명소로 꼽혔지만 그 당시 소금이 나는 지역을 관광하는 것은 엘리트들에게만 허용되어 있었다. 입장을 허가받기 위해 특별히 왕의 허락이 필요했고, 그것은 운 좋은 소수의 사람들에게만 주어졌다. 비엘리츠카 소금광산을 처음으로 방문했던 관광객들 중 하나가 코페르니쿠스였다는 점이 바로 그 사실을 증명한다. 일년 중 어느 때라도, 비엘리츠카 소금 광산의 관광 경로를 따라 여행하는 방문객들은 잊을 수 없는 모험을 경험할 수 있다. 광산은 크라쿠프 중심지에서 약 15km 떨어진 곳에 위치해 있고, 차로 30분가량 소요된다.

일년 내내 방문할 수 있는 관광지
만약 여러분들이 무더위나 추위에 시달리거나, 눈과 비를 맞으며 관광하는 것이 싫다면 그런 일들은 비엘리츠카 소금광산에서는 절대 일어나지 않는다는 점을 기억하자. 항상 17~18℃의 쾌적한 온도가 유지되기 때문에 적절하게 갖춰 입기만 한다면 경이롭고 풍부한 광산의 분위기를 충분히 느낄 수 있다.

자연의 심장 속에서 펼쳐지는 행사들
역사가 풍부한 이 소금 광산은 회의와 심포지엄, 연회, 트레이닝 세션과 같은 행사 주최하는 많은 사람들의 관심을 받고 있다. 비엘리츠카 소금 광산의 회의 및 연회 시설은 7개의 소금 방으로 구성되어 있다. 그들 중 가장 작은 방은 총 면적이 58㎡이며, 가장 큰 바르샤바실은 680㎡이다. 지하 125m에 위치한 19세기풍 바르샤바실에서는 신년 전야제 무도회, 신년 클래식 음악 콘서트, 연회, 회의, 심포지엄 등이 열린다.

Discover the secrets of the underground world

The Wieliczka Salt Mine is a legendary destination, which has been attracting visitors from all over the world for generations. And it is no wonder why – this underground treasure lures and entices everybody with its unique atmosphere.

What makes the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine so special?
First and foremost, it is a priceless monument of world material culture, inscribed in 1978 on the First UNESCO World Heritage List. What is more, it is actually enormous. Over the course of more than 700 years, 26 shafts were struck in Wieliczka and 9 million cubic metres of post-mining voids were excavated.

The Tourist Route is 3,5 km, consists of 20 chambers located at depths from 64 to 135 meters. Only 2% of the salt labyrinth is open to the general public. You can see the St Kinga’s Chapel, the most beautiful chamber of the Mine, located 101 metres underground. Admire the salt sculptures and reliefs, be dazzled by the shine of crystal chandeliers, take a closer look at the beautiful salt floor and notice all the details, each of which is a tiny piece of art, which – together – form the unforgettable atmosphere of this unique place.

The “Wieliczka” Salt Mine has been a tourist attraction since the fifteenth century, but we must remember that touring the salt-bearing realm used to be reserved to an elite. To be granted admission, you needed the consent of the king, which was only granted to a fortunate few. There are good reasons to believe that one of the first tourists who visited the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine was Nicolaus Copernicus.

At any time of the year, visitors touring the Tourist Route in the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine can experience an unforgettable adventure. The Mine is located around 15 kilometres from the city center of Krakow (about 30 min drive).

Events in the heart of nature
The historic salt mine underground enjoys also the interest of many event organisers – conferences, symposiums, banquets and training sessions. The conference and banquet facilities at the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine comprise seven salt chambers. The smallest of them has a total area of 58 m², while the largest - the Warszawa Chamber – offers as much as 680 m² of usable area. The 19th-century Warszawa Chamber, located at the depth of 125 metres hosts New Year's Eve Balls, New Year's classical music concerts, banquets, conferences and symposia.
