시게트 페스티벌은 매년 전 세계에서 거의 50만 명이 참여하는 기념비적 축제다. 시게트는 헝가리어로 섬을 의미하며, 다뉴브 강이 흐르는 부다페스트의 주요 섬 중 하나를 말한다. 유럽 최대 축제 중 하나로 음악, 설치 예술, 공연, 다양한 액티비티가 매년 1,000개 이상 개최되며, 최고의 유럽축제 부문에서 2회(2011년 및 2014년) 수상한 바 있다.

밸리 오브 아츠 페스티벌은 낭만적인 벌러톤 호수 북쪽의 그림 같은 마을에 위치하며, 음악, 연극, 무용, 문학, 시각 예술 등 다양한 형태의 예술을 선보인다. 일상의 번잡함에서 벗어나 쾌활하게 즐길 수 있도록 여러 마을의 매력적인 장소에서 공연과 전시회가 열린다.

베스프렘 벌러톤 지역은 2023년 ‘유럽 문화 수도’이다. 이 제도는 30년 전에 시작되었으며 그 이후로 EU의 문화 정책에서 가장 중요한 프로젝트 중 하나이다. 2023년에는 “City of Queens”로도 알려진 유서 깊은 베스프렘에서 헝가리와 유럽 문화를 기념하는 수백 개의 프로그램이 연중 열리고 있다.

부다페스트 와인축제와 민속예술축제는 부다페스트에 머물면서 떠나고 싶지 않을 때 완벽한 선택이 될 것이다. 이 두 축제는 역사적인 부다성에서 개최된다. 9월의 부다페스트 와인축제는 헝가리의 풍부한 와인문화를 선보인다. 축제 기간 동안 와인 시음, 다양한 문화 프로그램 및 논스톱 라이브 음악을 즐길 수 있다.

부다페스트의 민속예술축제는 헝가리 전통문화와 민속예술로. 매년 수천 명의 방문객을 끌어들이는 헝가리에서 가장 크고 권위 있는 민속축제 중 하나이다. 대체로 8월에 열리며 전통공예, 음악, 춤, 요리법을 포함한 다양한 민속예술을 선보인다. 장인, 연주자, 음악가가 자신의 기술과 재능을 선보이고 헝가리의 풍부한 문화 유산을 보존하고 홍보할 수 있는 플랫폼을 제공한다. 2022년 주빈국은 한국으로, 다양하고 다채로운 콘텐츠로 현지 관람객들을 매료시킨 바 있다.

의심할 여지없이 헝가리에서 가장 오래된 축제는 세게드의 여름축제로 야외극장에서 열린다. 야외극장은 1931년 개관해 올해로 92주년을 맞았으며, 상징적인 세게드 봉헌교회 옆의 아름다운 ‘돔 광장’에 위치한다. 수년 동안 야외극장은 오페라, 뮤지컬, 발레, 오페레타, 댄스 공연, 클래식 콘서트를 포함하여 헝가리 및 세계적 공연을 다양하게 선보였고, 한 주에 여러 번 극장의 4,000석을 채우며 모든 방문객을 만족시킨다. 거대한 무대 규모는 종종 행사의 감독에게 도전이자 원동력이 된다. 자동차, 말, 마차와 같은 엄청난 소품과 세트를 보는 것 또한 놀라운 일이 아니다. 이곳에서 뮤지컬 ‘미스 사이공’이 공연될 때는 무대에서 진짜 헬리콥터가 이륙하기도 했다!

The incredible variety of Summer Festivals in Hungary

Hungary with seven direct flights per week from Seoul is one of the newest hot spots of South Korean tourism in Central Europe. Hungary - next to its amazing architecture, lovely nature and exciting gastronomy - is also known for its vibrant summer festival scene, offering a wide range of cultural, music, and arts events. Below we would like to share some popular summer festivals in Hungary.

The monumental Sziget Festival attracts close to half million people each year from all around the world. Sziget means Island in Hungarian. That is because it is located one of the main islands of Budapest, in the Danube river. Sziget is among Europe's largest music and cultural festivals which offers a diverse range of music genres, art installations, performances, various activities, - more than 1000 of them each year. Sziget was a two-time winner (2011 and 2014) at the European Festivals Awards in the category of Best Major European Festival.

The Valley of Arts Festival is situated in the picturesque villages North of the romantic Lake Balaton. Valley of Arts Festival celebrates various forms of art, including music, theater, dance, literature as well as visual arts. It features performances and exhibitions in charming venues across several villages where you can step out of the everyday rush and enjoy the bright side of life.

Veszprém-Balaton region is the European Capital of Culture in 2023. The title of European Capital of Culture was initiated over 30 years ago, and has been one of the most important projects of the EU's cultural policy ever since. In 2023 the historical Veszprém, also know as „City of Queens” bears the title and offers hundreds of programs throughout the year celebrating Hungarian and European Culture.

The Budapest Wine Festival and the Festival of Folk Arts are the perfect choices when you do not want to leave Budapest during your visit. Both are held in the historic Buda Castle. The Budapest Wine Festival takes place in September and showcases the rich wine culture of Hungary. During the festival visitors can enjoy wine tastings, numerous cultural programs, and non-stop live music.

The Festival of Folk Arts in Budapest celebrates traditional Hungarian culture and folk arts. It is one of the largest and most prestigious folk festivals in Hungary, attracting thousands of visitors each year. The festival typically takes place in August and is also held at the Buda Castle. The event showcases a wide range of folk arts, including traditional crafts, music, dance, and gastronomy. It provides a platform for artisans, performers, and musicians to present their skills and talents, preserving and promoting Hungary's rich cultural heritage. In 2022 the guest of honor was Korea, enchanting the local visitors with a variety of colorful content.

Undoubtedly the oldest festival in Hungary is the Open-Air Festival or Open-Air Theater in the city of Szeged which takes place during the summer months. The Open-Air Theater was established in 1931, celebrating 92 years of its history this year. It is situated in a beautiful "Dóm square" next to the iconic Votive Church of Szeged. Throughout the years, the Open-Air Theater has been demonstrating a wide range of Hungarian and international productions including operas, musicals, ballets, operettas, dance performances, classical concerts. The diverse program is likely to cater to the interest of any visitor which helps to easily fill up the 4000 seats of the theater multiple times a week. The enormous size of the stage is often a challenge and driving force to the directors of the events. It is completely normal to see exaggerated props and backgrounds on it, like cars, horses, carriges. When the musical Miss Saigon was perfolmed there, a real helicopter took off from the stage!
