[아츠앤컬쳐] 크워츠코 지역은 폴란드 돌노실롱스크 주에 위치한 관광 명소로, 장엄한 산의 풍경뿐만 아니라 유명 온천과 다양한 명소로 여행자들의 마음을 사로잡고 있다. 그중에서도 특히 인기 있는 곳은 두슈니키 즈드루이(Duszniki Zdrój)에 자리한 제지 박물관이다. 16세기부터 존재해 온 역사적인 종이 공장 건물에 자리 잡고 있는 제지 박물관은 2011년에 문화재로 지정되었으며, 독특한 건축 양식 덕분에 유럽에서도 손꼽히는 흥미로운 기술 유산 중 하나로 평가받고 있다.

박물관의 웅장한 외관과 세심하게 보존된 화려한 내부 장식을 통해 방문객들은 과거 소유주들의 높은 사회적 지위를 간접적으로 느낄 수 있다. 또한, 이 건물이 실레지아 지역의 제지 역사에서 얼마나 중요한 역할을 했는지 생생히 확인할 수 있다. 특히, 두슈니키 즈드루이는 이와 같은 전통적인 제지 공장이 유일하게 남아 있는 지역이라는 점에서 더욱 특별하다.

두슈니키 즈드루이에서의 전통 수제 종이 제작은 16세기에 시작되었으며, 역사 기록에는 1562년 처음으로 이 공장에 대한 언급이 등장한다. 대중에게 공개된 것은 1968년으로, 현재 박물관에서는 상설 및 임시 전시를 통해 제지의 역사, 19~20세기 제지 기술, 폴란드 지폐의 발전사, 종이 예술 등을 다룬다. 특히 유럽의 전통 기술로 수작업 종이를 제작하는 공방은 박물관의 대표적인 명소 중 하나이다. 이곳에서 만들어진 종이는 도서 특별판, 졸업장, 초대장, 명함 등 다양한 용도로 활용되고 있다.

박물관에서는 방문객들이 직접 참여할 수 있는 종이 제작 워크숍을 제공한다. 단체 방문객에게는 박물관의 상설 전시 관람과 함께 제지, 데쿠파주(Decoupage), 종이 공예 등 다양한 체험을 포함한 ‘박물관 수업’ 프로그램이 제공된다. 매년 7월 마지막 주말쯤 박물관에서 개최하는 종이 축제는 장터, 체험 프로그램, 종이를 주제로 한 다양한 프레젠테이션과 워크숍 등 풍성한 즐길 거리로 가득하니 이 기간에 방문하여 더욱 특별한 경험을 해보길 추천한다.

Museum of Papermaking in Duszniki Zdrój

It would be truly hard to imagine a tour around Lower Silesia without visiting the Kłodzko Land, with its breathtaking montainous sceneries, famous spa towns and numerous tourist attractions. One of them is the Museum of Papermaking in Duszniki Zdrój. The Museum is located in the historic building of the paper mill which dates back to the 16th century. Since 2011 it enjoys the status of Historic Monument and due to the unique architecture is considered one of the most interesting monuments of technology in Europe.

Both the impressive building of the mill itself and the preserved fragment of its fabulous interior decoration testify the high material status of its former owners. They also reflect the importance of the paper mill in the history of the Silesian papermaking, all the more so because no other manufacture of this type has been preserved in the region.

The tradition of hand papermaking in Duszniki Zdrój dates back to the 16th century and The paper mill itself was mentioned for the first time 1562. The Museum of Papermaking was opened to the public in 1968. It offers permanent and temporary exhibitions exploring such topics as: history of papermaking, paper industry technology in the 19th and 20th centuries, history of Polish paper money and paper art. The atelier in which paper is made by hand according to traditional European technique became the Museum’s main attraction. Such paper may be and is used for both writing and printing, especially as far as special editions of books, diplomas, invitations or visit cards are concerned.

Those who visit the Museum of Papermaking may take advantage of papermaking workshops. As far as the organised groups of visitors are concerned, the so-called museum lessons are organised. They include both the visit to the Museum’s permanent exhibition and a wide range of workshops, such as papermaking, découpage or paper fantasies. The Museum of Papermaking is particularly worth visiting in July, as the annual, two-day Paper Festival is organised (usually the last weekend in July). It is accompanied by the fair and abounds in numerous attractions, such as presentations and workshops focused on the topic of paper.
