[아츠앤컬쳐] 3년 전, 폴란드 제슈프의 중앙시장 광장 지하에 새로운 문화 교류 기관이 설립되었다. 기존의 지하 관광 루트를 기반으로 조성된 이곳은 도시 기관 중 하나인 ‘에스트라다 제쇼프스카’의 운영 구조를 바탕으로 제슈프의 역사와 문화를 알리는 다양한 프로그램을 통해 도시에 활력을 불어넣고 있다.

제슈프 시장 광장 지하 공간은 한때 곡물 저장고, 창고, 식료품 보관소 등으로 사용되었다. 수 세기 전 제슈프는 동서 교역을 연결하는 중요한 무역 중심지이자 국제적인 규모의 시장이 열리는 상업 도시였다. 이러한 배경 속에서 지하실은 자연스럽게 도시의 상업 활동을 뒷받침하는 공간으로 활용되었으며 시간이 지나면서 여러 건물들이 연결되어 복잡한 지하 통로망을 이루게 되었다.

현재 이 공간은 오랜 기간 보수, 복원, 재건 과정을 거쳐 관광 명소로 조성되었다. 특히, 3년 전 멀티미디어 상설 전시를 중심으로 자동화 시스템이 도입되면서 더욱 현대적인 형태로 변화했다. 제슈프 지하실의 길이는 총 396m에 이르며, 25개의 지하실과 15개의 통로로 이루어져 있다. 가장 오래된 지하실은 시장 광장 아래 약 190cm 깊이에 위치하며, 15세기에 조성된 것으로 추정된다. 가장 좁은 통로는 폭이 단 70cm에 불과하며, 가장 오래된 지하실에서는 아치형 석재 입구, 고딕 양식의 십자 리브 볼트(vault) 잔해, 그리고 제슈프에서 가장 오래된 창문(약 500년 된) 등의 흔적이 남아있다.

제슈프 지하 탐방로에서는 선사 시대부터 21세기까지 이어지는 제슈프의 역사를 따라가며 마치 시간 여행을 하는 듯한 경험을 할 수 있다. 지하 공간은 신비로운 터널, 전자 횃불이 줄지어 있는 복도, 근대 초기의 여관, 직물 가게, 수입 잡화점 등으로 구성되어 있으며, 몰입형 멀티미디어 체험 공간에서는 실제 도시 화재를 재현한 전시를 통해 보다 생생한 경험을 제공한다.

또한, 제슈프를 대표하는 요소들도 곳곳에서 만나볼 수 있다. 주크박스를 통해 즐기는 음악, 오리지널 스피드웨이 오토바이를 활용한 스포츠 체험, 그리고 도시의 항공 전통을 반영하여 직접 작동시켜 바람을 체험할 수 있는 제트 엔진까지, 다양한 테마의 체험이 방문객들을 기다리고 있다.

제슈프 지하실은 음악 공연장, 워크숍 공간, 예술·연극·영화 공간으로도 활발히 활용되며, 다채로운 문화 활동이 이루어지는 곳이다. 자체적으로 마련된 5D LED 영화관에서는 몰입감 넘치는 영상 콘텐츠를 즐길 수 있으며, 도심 한가운데 위치한 덕분에 제슈프의 문화와 관광을 대표하는 중심지로 자리 잡아 도시의 과거와 현재를 연결하는 특별한 경험을 선사한다.

              The phenomenon of Rzeszow underground

Three years ago, Rzeszow Cellars, an interactive cultural institution based on the former Underground. Tourist Route was established within the structures of Estrada Rzeszowska, one of the city's urban institutions. An interdisciplinary space was created, with a wide field of opportunities, popularizing knowledge about Rzeszow and animating the city and its residents in the maximum possible spectrum of activities.

Just under the plate of Rzeszow's Market Square there are underground spaces, which in the years of their splendor, served as earth stores, warehouses, storerooms, basements, pantries and cellars of the buildings located here. Rzeszow centuries ago, developing along one of the most important transport routes connecting east and west. Our town remained a merchant and trade city, where fairs and markets were held, even of international rank. Therefore the historical cellar spaces are recognized as a kind of commercial hinterland of the city, which over the centuries grew strongly into a network of basements connected by corridors, on several levels and in different directions of the space under the Market Square.

Today, in place of the centuries-old cellars, there is an underground route, which was created after several decades of renovation, revitalization and sometimes comprehensive reconstruction as a tourist attraction. Three years ago, the space got a new look, as it was comprehensively automated, based on a multimedia permanent exhibition, whose narrative is based on the history of the city and the cellars. Rzeszow Cellars are 396 m long, there are 25 cellars and 15 corridors, and the oldest cellar spaces, located about 190 cm under the market plate, are dated to the 15th century.

On the other hand, the deepest cellars located 10 m under the market plate and local buildings, were created in the cellars dating back to the 18th-19th centuries. There is a corridor only 70 cm wide and in the oldest basement there are relics of medieval architectural elements, such as an arched stone portal, remnants of a Gothic cross-ribbed vault and the oldest window in Rzeszow, which is almost 500 years old.

The multimedia underground route is a journey in time as far as the history of Rzeszow is concerned, as the chronology is set in the prehistory and ends in the 20th and 21st century. An additional bonus of the place are the original historical spaces, which gives an interesting story with historical signs available on site for all Visitors, who can explore our underground route. Other attractions of the place are the permanent scenery of Rzeszow Cellars itself.

There's a mysterious tunnel, a corridor with a row of electronic torches, a cellar arranged as a, inn of the early modern period, fabric store or a colonial goods shop, as well as one that in a literal way, forces our Guests to walk through the middle of a multimedia city fire. There is also room for typical Rzeszow accents, such as music in the form of a jukebox, sports in the form of an original speedway motorcycle or, finally referring to the city's aviation tradition, a jet engine that you can start and stand in its blast.

Rzeszow Cellars is an urban institution with a wide range of activities. It is a place with the character of a music stage, a workshop location, a space for art, theater and even cinema, as it is self-sufficient in this matter, since there is a 5D LED cinema. Its excellent location in the city center makes Rzeszow Cellars a kind of heart of the city, its showcase, currently the most important tourist and cultural location in Rzeszow.
