[아츠앤컬쳐] 크로아티아는 최근 미국의 메가 영화가 많이 촬영되면서 연예인과 엔터테인먼트 및 유명 인사들 사이에 가장 인기있는 휴양지로 부상하였다. ‘왕좌의 게임’, ‘스타워즈’, ‘로빈 후드’가 모두 고대도시 두브로브니크에서 촬영된 후 이 도시는 할리우드 배우들이 멋진 영화 장면을 촬영한 곳을 찾아 셀카를 찍고 싶어하는 수십만 명의 방문객으로 붐비기 시작했다.

두브로브니크는 수많은 르네상스 철학자, 세계적으로 유명한 과학자, 천문학자, 예술가들로 매우 풍부한 문화 유산을 소유하고 있지만, 구시가지의 기념품 가게들은 새롭게 부상한 상업적 잠재력을 인식하고 지역 두브로브니크 기념품 외에 요다 와 다스베이더, 3D 스타워즈 나이트 라이트, 아타보이, 맥파란, 대너리스 및 기타 캐릭터와 같은 영화 제작과 관련된 다양한 기념품을 판매하기 시작하였다.

약 1,700년 전 로마 황제 디오클레티아누스 시대에 세워진 고대도시 스플리트에서 새 영화 ‘위켄드 어웨이’가 촬영되면서 이 도시의 새로운 이미지를 부각하는데 영향을 미쳤으며 이는 풀라와 다른 많은 크로아티아 도시들도 마찬가지이다. 멋진 구시가지의 거리를 걷는 연예인들의 모습을 가장 많이 볼 수 있는 곳은 두브로브니크이며, 세계적으로 유명한 연예인들은 비밀스런 휴양지로는 흐바르섬을 선택한다. 지난 몇 년 동안 해리 왕자, 톰 크루즈, 비욘세, 존 말코비치, 빌 게이츠, 캐서린 제타 존스, 안젤리나 졸리, 안소니 홉킨스, 셀마 헤이엑, 마이클 조던, 데미 무어, 해리슨 포드 등이 크로아티아 도시들을 찾았다.

이러한 세계적인 인기 영화 촬영지를 따라 크로아티아 전역을 돌아보는 여행이 점점 더 늘어나고 있다. 배우들은 영화 제작 기간 동안 크로아티아의 아름다운 마을들을 즐기며 소셜 네트워크를 통해 자신의 경험을 공유하며, 전 세계적으로 수백만 명의 팔로워를 보유한 유명인들도 페이스북, 인스타그램, 트위터 등을 통해 크로아티아를 알리는데 끊임없는 기여를 하고 있다.

확실히 이것은 크로아티아의 관광 산업에 놀라운 영향을 줘서 2019년에는 400만 인구의 나라에 2,100만 외국인 관광객이 찾아와 1억 1,000만 박 이상을 보낸 기적적인 기록을 얻게 되었다. 한국 방송사들도 그 가능성을 인정하고 드라마, 리얼리티 여행쇼, 다큐멘터리를 제작하여 많은 한국인들이 크로아티아를 방문하는 데 큰 역할을 하였으며 오늘날 한국에서 크로아티아를 여행하는 것은 일종의 패션처럼 되었다.

크로아티아를 방문한 많은 한국인들이 멋진 관광지에서 아름다운 추억을 만들었고, 다시 크로아티아를 여행할 수 있도록 코로나19 봉쇄령이 해제되기를 기다리고 있다. 거의 모든 주요 관광지를 볼 수 있는 귀한 기회를 가졌던 나는 크로아티아가 정말 독특하고 유명한 DK 아이위트니스 여행 가이드가 말한 것처럼 “놀랍도록 아름다운 나라”라고 자신 있게 말하고 싶다. 게다가 친한 친구들 덕분에 내겐 크로아티아가 제2의 고향처럼 느껴진다. 현지 크로아티아인들은 말로 표현할 수 없을 정도로 친절하여 이는 많은 외국인 관광객들이 크로아티아에서 여행하며 연예인이 된 듯 착각을 하는 이유이기도 하다.

Croatia – Celebrity hotspots

With a number of American mega movies being filmed recently in this yet undiscovered country, Croatia has emerged as one of the most prestigious destinations for celebrities and famous people from the entertainment and show industry. After Game of Thrones, Star Wars, and Robin Hood, all three were filmed in the ancient City of Dubrovnik, this town has encouraged dozens of millions of visitors, who would like to see, enjoy, and make a selfie at the place where the heroes of these Hollywood movies made their scenes.

Even though Dubrovnik’s cultural heritage is so rich with numerous renaissance philosophers, world-known scientists, astronomers, and artists, the local souvenir shops in the old town have recognized the newly emerged commercial potential and they start to sell a variety of souvenirs, or memorabilia, related to these film productions, like Yoda & Darth Vader, 3D Star Wars Night Light Star, Ata-Boy, McFarlane, Daenerys, and other characters, besides the local Dubrovnik souvenirs.

The new movie “Weekend Away” was filmed in the ancient City of Split and has influenced the new image of this city, which was founded during the Roman Emperor Diocletian, some 1,700 years ago. And the same with Pula and many other Croatian cities. The most popular place to see celebrities walking around the old city streets is Dubrovnik, and the most secret place world-famous celebrities choose is the Island of Hvar. In the last few years, Croatian cities have welcomed Prince Harry, Tom Cruise, Beyonce, John Malkovich, Bill Gates, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Angelina Jolie, Anthony Hopkins, Salma Hayek, Michael Jordan, Demi Moore, Harrison Ford, and many more.

There are more and more travel tours around Croatia, following the scenes used in these global popular movie productions. And the actors, during the film production period, enjoy Croatian towns, sharing their own experiences through social networks. Celebrities with millions of followers worldwide also make their own contributions to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and so on. Surely, this is a wonderful thing for the tourist industry in Croatia. As result, the country of just 4 million people had 21 million foreign tourists in 2019, the last healthy year who spent more than 110 million nights in this country.

The Korean broadcasting companies have also recognized the potential and made dramas, reality travel shows, and documentaries which influenced many Koreans to visit Croatia. Today, traveling to Croatia in Korea became a kind of prestige or fashion. Many Koreans had wonderful memories in Croatia, and they are waiting for the Covid restrictions to be lifted so that they can travel again to Croatia. Through the eccentric opportunities to see almost all major tourist destinations. I can say with full confidence that Croatia is really unique and, as the famous DK Eyewitness Travel Guide says, “.. a stunningly beautiful country”.

In addition, my close friends make me feel like Croatia is my second home. The hospitality of the local Croatian people is beyond my words, and this is the reason that many foreign visitors indeed perceive themselves as a celebrity in Croatia.
