[아츠앤컬쳐] 라트비아의 겨울은 특별히 매력적이어서, 일년 중에서 가장 음울한 이 기간에 라트비아에서의 다음 휴가를 계획하는 것은 확실히 의미있는 일이다. 지금은 라트비아를 찾는 관광객이 적은 시기이지만 겨울철 라트비아를 방문하는 것은 실제로 몇 가지 이점이 있다. 항공권은 저렴하고 호텔 및 게스트하우스에는 여유가 있어 전체 여행 비용이 훨씬 더 만족스러워진다. 게다가, 일년 중 가장 추운 시기라서 사람들의 유동성도 적다.

겨울철, 남녀노소 모두를 유혹하는 것은 무엇일까? 물론 눈이다. 라트비아는 온대 기후대에 위치해 있어, 더운 여름, 황금빛 가을, 추운 겨울 그리고 자연이 깨어나는 봄의 뚜렷한 사계절이 있다. 라트비아의 겨울은 다양한 모습이 있고, 때로 기온이 -30℃에 이르기도 한다. 강과 호수, 바다가 얼어붙고 눈이 닿는 모든 곳에 하얀 세상이 펼쳐지는 마법의 시간. 야외에서 하루를 보낸 후에 차 한 잔으로 몸을 녹이는 것만큼 근사한 것은 없다.

몸이 휴식을 취하고 나면 이제 마음을 위한 시간이다. 가을이 되면 라트비아의 공연예술기관들이 새로운 시즌을 시작하고, 다양한 문화축제가 열리고, 박물관에 새로운 박람회, 전시회가 열린다. 겨울철은 실내로 들어와 오페라, 발레, 연극 공연을 통해 일상을 잠시 내려놓고, 영화관을 방문하거나 박물관 중 하나를 찾음으로써 다른 세계로 가는 시간이다. 여름은 축제의 장이지만, 겨울은 세계적인 음악가들이 리가의 공연장에서 공연을 하는 경우가 많으며, 리가의 콘서트는 다른 유럽 도시들보다 티켓 가격과 점유율 면에서 더 괜찮은 경우가 많다.

12월은 라트비아를 방문하여 크리스마스 분위기를 만끽하고 사랑하는 사람들을 위한 선물을 준비하기에 좋은 시기다. 돔 광장의 구 리가 크리스마스마켓은 리가의 전통 중 하나이다. 라트비아 전역의 장인과 상인들이 이 구 시가지 중심부에 모여 그들의 작품을 선보인다. 돔 광장에는 크리스마스트리가 장식되어 들어서고, 축제 음악이 흐르고, 멀드 와인 냄새가 퍼져나간다.

이 또한 긴장을 풀고, 회복하고, 힐링하기에 좋은 시간이다. 라트비아에는 다양한 스파가 있으며, 그 중 유르말라는 발트해에서 가장 큰 휴양지이다. 가을과 겨울은 스파에 적절한 계절이기도 하며 즉, 손님이 방문하기에 더 조용하고 차분하며 특별 프로모션과 제안이 종종 제공된다. 겨울이면 의례히 즐길 수 있는 냉수 수영과 같은 옵션도 있다. 사우나를 방문한 후에 감각이 마비될 정도의 냉수욕은 거의 극한의 감각으로 몰아치기 때문에 모든 사람들이 시도할 준비가 되어 있는 것은 아니다.

여행 기간과 목적지에 관계없이, 라트비아의 겨울은 모두에게 많은 것을 제공할 것이다.

Winter in Latvia has a special magic, so it is definitely worth thinking about your next holiday in Latvia during the dark months of the year. This is the time when fewer tourists visit Latvia, but visiting in winter has several practical benefits: cheaper flight tickets and less occupancy of hotels and guest houses make the overall cost of the trip much more pleasant. In addition, the flow of people is also smaller during the coldest time of the year.

What tempts everyone - young and old - in winter? Snow, of course. Latvia is located in a temperate climate zone, which means that the country has four distinct seasons: hot summers, golden autumns, cold winters and spring, when nature awakens. Winters in Latvia tend to vary; the temperature can even reach -30 degrees. It's a magical time when the rivers, lakes and sea freeze, when the whiteness stretches as far as the eye can see, and there's nothing quite like warming up with a cup of tea after a day spent outdoors.

When the body is rested, it is time to feed the mind. In autumn Latvian performing arts institutions start the new season, various cultural festivals take place, new expositions are placed in museums and new exhibitions are opened. Winter is the time to take shelter indoors and “disconnect” from everyday life at an opera, ballet or theatre performance, get to a different world by visiting a cinema or explore new spaces in one of the museums. Summer belongs to festivals, but in winter, world-class musicians often perform in one of the concert halls in Riga, and their concerts in Riga are often more affordable, both in terms of price and occupancy, than in other European capitals.

December is a great time to visit Latvia to capture the Christmas feeling and to prepare gifts for your loved ones. The Old Riga Christmas Market in Dome Square is one of Riga's traditions: in the very heart of Old Riga, artisans and merchants from all over Latvia gather to offer their creations. The Christmas tree is decorated in Dome Square, festive music is playing and the smell of mulled wine is in the air.

This is also a good time to relax, recuperate and rehabilitate. Latvia has a wide range of spas, and Jūrmala is the largest resort in the Baltics. Autumn and winter are usually the quiet season for spas as well, which means they are both quieter and calmer for guest visits, and special promotions and offers are often available. There are also options to enjoy rituals only available in winter, such as cold water swimming. The numbing bath after visiting the sauna gives almost extreme sensations; not everyone is ready to try it out.

Regardless of how long and what destination you choose for your trip, Latvian winter has a lot to offer everyone.
