[아츠앤컬쳐] 라트비아의 수도인 리가는 역사적으로 북유럽 예술과 문화의 핫스팟이었다. 오늘은 리가에 위치한 세 개의 주목할 만한 박물관에 대해 알아본다.

리가미술관(Art Museum Riga Bourse)은 발트해 연안 국가 중에서 가장 큰 세계 미술품을 소장하고 있다. 이 컬렉션은 19세기에 리가의 의회 의원, 시장, 무역업자들에 의해 시작되었다. 현재 박물관에서는 국제 전시회와 다양한 문화 예술 행사가 거행되고 있다. 미술관은 국가적으로 중요한 건축 기념물인 리가 보스 건물에 위치한다. 이 건물은 1852년~1855년에 독일계 상트페테르부르크 출신의 건축가 하랄드 율리우스 폰 보세(1812-1894)가 설계했으며, 부와 풍요의 상징인 베네치아의 르네상스 궁전 양식으로 지었다.

성공적인 재건축 이후, 리가미술관은 6층에 현대적인 전시장, 다양한 박람회, 어린이를 위한 ‘작은 학교’, 세미나와 회의실, 박물관 기념품과 미술 카탈로그 가게, 카페 등을 갖추고 있다. 그 중에서도 국내외 관객을 위한 오디오 가이드를 포함하여 특별한 휴식 공간과 현대 기술의 접목을 빼놓을 수 없다.

라트비아 국립미술관은 라트비아 지역 예술을 대표하는 미술관으로 라트비아에서 가장 큰 미술관 컬렉션이며 발트해 및 북유럽 화가, 조각가들의 52,000점이 넘는 작품을 보유하고 있다. 미술관은 정기적으로 다양한 기획 전시회를 열고 있으며, 방문객들은 미술관 직원이 안내하는 특별 교육 프로그램과 투어에 참가할 수 있다.

미술관의 두 개의 옥상 테라스는 방문객들에게 특별한 놀라움을 선사할 것이다. 테라스는 미술관의 개장 시간 동안 미술관 전체 입장권이나 상설 전시회 입장권을 구매하고 이용할 수 있다. 라트비아 국립미술관 건물은 국가 건축 기념물이며 리가 시가지 반경 내에서 가장 인상 깊은 역사적 건물 중 하나이다.

또한, 최근 리가에 새로 생긴 대형 박물관 중에 리가 자동차박물관이 있다. 이곳에서 발트해 연안에서 가장 크고 다양한 골동품 자동차 컬렉션을 볼 수 있으며 이에 얽힌 흥미진진한 이야기를 들을 수 있다. 박물관 전시회는 특이한 자동차, 저명 인사, 그리고 자동차 세계에서 가장 중요한 역사적 사건들에 대한 이야기로 꾸며져 있다. 리가 자동차박물관 곳곳에 설치된 수많은 인터랙티브 요소들은 모든 어린이의 관심을 끌 만하다. 필자가 리가에서 자랄 때, 그것은 가장 좋아하는 것 중 하나였으며 지금도 새로 나온 전시회가 빨리 보고 싶다!

Museums in Riga, Latvia

The capital city of Latvia, Riga, historically has been an art and culture hotspot in the Nordic region of Europe. Today we will mention three noteworthy museums located in Riga.

The Art Museum Riga Bourse stores the largest collection of foreign art in Baltic States. The collection was started by Riga’s council members, mayors and traders in 19 century. Now museum offers international exhibitions and a wide spectrum of culture and arts events.

The Museum is located in the Riga Bourse building that is an architectural monument of national importance. The building was constructed from 1852 to 1855 following Venetian Renaissance palazzo forms that symbolise wealth and abundance. The building was designed by an architect from St. Petersburg of German origin Harald Julius von Bosse (1812-1894).

After its successful reconstruction the Art Museum Riga Bourse on its six floors now houses modern exhibition halls, various expositions, the "Small School" for children, seminar and conference rooms, museum souvenir and art catalogue shop, as well as a café.

Among other novelties, special relaxation areas and application of modern technologies, including audio guides for local and foreign guests must be mentioned.

Latvian National Museum of Art is the representative museum of Latvian and regional art.

The collection of the largest art museum in Latvia comprises more than 52 thousand works by Baltic and Nordic painters and sculptors.

The museum regularly offers various temporary exhibitions. Its visitors can take special educational programmes and tours guided by museum employees.

The two roof terraces of the museum will become a special surprise for its visitors. The terraces can be accessed during the working hours of the museum by those who buy the all-inclusive museum ticket, or the ticket to the permanent exhibition.

The building of the Latvian National Museum of Art is a national architectural monument and is one of the most impressive historical buildings within the Riga avenue circle.

One of the recently renewed large museums in Riga is the Riga Motor Museum.

Here you can see the largest and most diverse collection of antique motor vehicles in the Baltics and listen to exciting stories about them.

The museum exhibition has been created as a story about unique motor vehicles, prominent persons and the most important historical events in the automotive world.

Innumerable interactive elements have been installed throughout Riga Motor Museum, which will draw the attention of any child. It was one of my favourites, when I grew up in Riga and I can’t wait to see the renewed exhibition!
