[아츠앤컬쳐] 토리노는 이탈리아 북서부 피에몬테(Piedmont)의 아름다운 주도(州都)로, 프랑스 국경과 지중해로부터 차로 약 1시간 거리 내외에 자리한다. 피렌체, 로마나 베네치아와 같은 유명한 관광지는 아니지만 포 강이 흐르고, 도시가 내려다보이는 젠텔 언덕 아래, 쾌적한 빌라가 곳곳에 산재해 있으며 저 멀리 알프스로 둘러싸여 포근한 분위기를 자랑한다. 이 때문에 유명한 건축가 르 코르뷔지에는 토리노를 “세계에서 가장 아름다운 자연적 위치에 있는 도시”라고 말한 바 있다.

토리노는 풍부한 역사와 문화의 도시로, 수많은 미술관, 레스토랑, 교회, 궁전, 오페라 하우스, 공원, 정원, 극장, 도서관, 박물관 등에, 르네상스, 바로크, 로코코, 네오 클래식, 아르누보 건축으로도 이름이 나 있다. 전에는 유럽의 주요 정치 중심지로, 1563년부터 사보이 공국의 수도로 사르데냐 왕국을 통치했고, 1861년부터 1865년까지 이탈리아 왕국의 첫 번째 수도였다. 그리고 사부디안 전 왕실의 고향으로도 유명하다.

오늘날 토리노는 고풍스러운 분위기, 오래된 세련된 상점, 웅장한 대로와 궁전, 녹음이 우거진 공원과 여러 아트 갤러리가 있어 점점 더 인기가 높아가는 관광 리조트라 할 수 있다.

토리노는 왕실의 아름다운 궁전과 저택 외에 세계에서 가장 중요하고 희귀한 박물관 중 하나인 이집트 박물관이 유명하다. 이집트 토리노 박물관은 세계에서 가장 오래된 박물관으로, 1824년에 설립되어 카이로에 이은 두 번째 이집트 박물관이다. 고대이집트 문화와 예술에 만전을 기하는 이 박물관의 컬렉션은 로제타스톤의 해독자인 장 프랑수아 샴폴리온 등 역사상 가장 중요한 학자들의 관심의 대상이 되어 왔다. 이는 토리노가 이집트학이 시작된 도시라는 사실에 기인하며 오늘날 더욱 확장되고있다.

미라와 신성한 동물이 항상 전시되어 있는데, 장식품과 가구를 매우 세심하게 선별하여 파라오 및 사람들의 삶을 보여주는 데 중점을 둔다. 이를 이른바 “멤피스와 테베로 가는 길은 토리노를 통한다”라고 한다.

토리노는 아름답고 독특한 교회와 궁전, 사보이의 저택뿐만 아니라 수많은 박물관이 있어 이탈리아에서도 매우 독특한 도시다. 한 예로 베나리아 궁전은 토리노 근처 베나리아 레알에 위치한 옛 왕실 거주지와 정원인데, 총 부지가 95만m²가 넘고 궁전의 총 면적도 8만m²에 달해 세계에서 가장 큰 궁전 중 하나이다. 그런데 그것은 여러 사보이의 왕실 저택 중 단 하나에 불과하다.

토리노는 다양한 음식으로 환상적인 식도락을 자랑한다. 현지요리는 이탈리아에서 가장 다양하고 유명하다. 비텔로 톤나토는 얇게 저민 송아지고기에 참치 마요네즈 소스를 뿌린 것으로, 녹색 소스에 절이거나 생 멸치, 바냐 카우다(마늘과 멸치 소스)와 빨갛고 노란 고추를 섞어 뿌리며 뜨겁고 차가운 두 종류가 있다.

아뇰로티는 다진 양고기를 채운 전통적인 라비올리로 아주 별미이다. 육식가들의 꿈의 음식으로는 송아지, 닭고기, 돼지고기와 내장을 혼합한 볼리토 미스토가 있고, 많은 식당 메뉴에서 생고기(비프 타타르-육회 등)를 볼 수 있다. 마늘, 토마토, 올리브오일 소스와 함께 제공되는 루마슈(달팽이)도 매우 유명하다.

Turin the Egyptian town in Italy

Today we speak about Turin. A beautiful town capital of Piedmont, a region of northwestern Italy , a one-hour drive from the French border and slightly more than that from the Mediterranean sea. While it's not a famous tourist destination like Florence Rome or Venice, the setting is pleasant, with the Po River flowing through the city, the genteel hills overlooking the city and scattered with pleasant villas and surrounded by the Italian Alps off in the distance.

This is why the famous architect Le Corbusier defined Turin as "the city with the most beautiful natural location in the world”.

The city has a rich culture and history, being known for its numerous art galleries, restaurants, churches, palaces, opera houses, parks, gardens, theatres, libraries, museums and other venues. Turin is well known for its Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Neo- Classical and Art Nouveau architecture.

The city used to be a major European political centre. From 1563, it was the capital of the Duchy of Savoy , then of the Kingdom of Sardinia ruled by the House of Savoy , and the first capital of the Kindom of Italy from 1861 to 1865. Famous for being the home of Sabaudian former royal family.

Today, Turin, with its fine, aristocratic atmosphere, old world sophisticated shops, grand boulevards and palaces, leafy parks, and several art galleries, is an increasingly popular tourist resort.

In addition to the beautiful palaces and residences of the royal family, Turin is famous for one of the most important and rare museums in the world: the Egyptian museum. The Museo Egizio or Egyptian Museum of Turin is the world’s oldest Egyptian museum; founded in 1824, it ranks second only to Cairo. Dedicated exclusively to ancient Egyptian culture and art, the museum's collection has been the subject of interest for some of history’s most important scholars, for instance Jean-Francoise Champollion, decipherer of the Rosetta Stone.

To such is attributed the fact that Turin is considered to be the city where Egyptology began. Today the Museum is expanding even further.

Mummies and sacred animals have always been on display, but ornaments and furnishings are highlighted to capture – with great precision – the life of both people and Pharaoh. We can say that “the road to Memphis and Thebes passes through Turin".

Churches, palaces unique for their beauty, the residences of the Savoy as well as the countless museums make this city unique in Italy. One example: The Palace of Venaria, i a former royal residence and gardens located in Venaria Real, near Turin. With 80,000m² in palace area and over 950.000m² in premises, it is one the largest palaces in the world. It is one of the Residence of the Royal House of Savoy.

Turin boasts a huge range of fantastic opportunities for dining out. The local cousine is some of the most varied and celebrated in Italy.

Vitello Tonnato ( veal in a tuna mayonnaise), marinated anchovies or anchovies in a green sauce, red and yellow peppers with Bagna Cauda ( garlic and anchovy sauce) or cold cuts. Very testy are also the Agnolotti, a ravioli traditionally stuffed with minced lamb.

A carnivore’s dream, includes a mix of veal, chicken, pork and offal and you will see carne cruda (like beef tartare) on many menus. Very famous are the Lumache (snails), served with garlic, tomato and olive oil sauce.
