[아츠앤컬쳐] 가을에 접어들면 중부 이탈리아는 이탈리아에서 가장 매혹적인 지역 중 하나로 탈바꿈한다. 유명한 언덕들이 붉은색과 주황색으로 물들어 그 숨막히는 풍경으로 관광객들에게 경이로움을 선사할 것이다. 특히 토스카나와 움브리아 사이에 위치한 발 도르치아, 몬테풀치아노, 트라시메노 호수에서는 중부 이탈리아의 상징이자 그 지역만의 진귀한 아름다움을 볼 수 있다.

움브리아 지역의 경계에 위치한 발 도르치아는 토스카나를 떠올릴 때 가장 전형적인 풍경을 가지고 있다. 사이프러스와 옥수수밭으로 이루어진 구불구불한 언덕은 독특한 풍경을 만들어내는 것으로 유명하다. 발 도르치아는 유네스코 세계 유산으로 지정되어 있으며, 매 시즌마다 고유한 색채의 향연을 보여준다. 특히 가을에는 언덕들이 황금빛으로 물들어 더욱 매혹적이다. 토스카나 시골을 여행하면 현지의 별미를 맛볼 수 있고 풍부한 문화 유산을 가진 피엔차와 몬탈치노와 같은 매력적인 마을들을 만날 수 있다.

발 도르치아의 여정을 이어나가다 보면, 별안간 언덕 위에 도시 몬테풀치아노가 나타난다. 이 도시는 독특한 건축 양식으로 인해 르네상스의 걸작의 중심지로도 알려져 있다. 마을의 모든 거리는 귀족의 궁전과 지역 공예 상점이 있는 광장으로 이어진다. 도시 가장 높은 곳에 위치한 메인 광장 피아차 그란데(Piazza Grande)에는 몬테풀치아노 대성당과 도시에서 가장 영향력 있는 가문들이 지은 르네상스식 궁전들이 있다. 몬테풀치아노의 다른 명소로 피아차 코무날레라고 불리는 시청 건물은 코지모 데 메디치(Cosimo de Medici)의 요구로 피렌체의 관광 명소로 잘 알려진 베키오 궁전(Palazzo Vecchio)을 닮았다. 몬테풀치아노의 뿌리 깊은 와인 문화를 보여주듯 궁전들 안 지하실에 지어진 와인 저장고도 도시의 중요한 관광 요소다.

이번 여정에서 빠질 수 없는 마지막 종착지는 트라시메노 호수다. 시골의 평화를 찾는 사람들에게 이 움브리아 호수는 올리브 나무와 어촌으로 둘러싸여 윤슬이 비치는 투명하고 맑은 물로 유명하다. 가을은 현지 올리브 오일을 맛보기에 완벽한 시기로, 이곳의 올리브 오일은 담백하면서 약간의 향신료 맛이 나는 것이 특징이다. 또한 이솔라 마지오레(Isola Maggiore)와 이솔라 폴베세(Isola Polbese)는 각자의 매력과 역사를 가지고 있어 놓칠 수 없는 명소이다. 이 호수는 도시 밖으로 여행하면서 역사적 아름다움을 포기하지 않고 자연을 즐기고자 하는 사람들에게 좋은 대안을 제공한다.

VAL D’ORCIA, MONTEPULCIANO, TRASIMENO

As the autumn season approaches, central Italy is transformed into one of the most magical regions of the country: the famous hills are tinged with red and orange to give space to breathtaking landscapes and an atmosphere that will leave every tourist in awe. In particular, between Tuscany and Umbria, it is possible to make an unmissable trip between the Val d'Orcia, Montepulciano and Lake Trasimeno, symbols of central Italy and places of rare beauty.

Located on the border with the Umbria region, the Val d'Orcia perhaps represents the most common imagery when one thinks of Tuscany. The rolling hills, adorned with cypress trees and cornfields, create the unique landscape for which the region is famous. Val d'Orcia is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and each season creates a unique symphony of colours; autumn, in particular, fascinates with its golden hills. Traveling through the Tuscan countryside, one comes across suggestive villages such as Pienza and Montalcino, which offer glimpses of the rich cultural heritage and allow you to taste local delicacies.

Continuing the journey to the Val d'Orcia, Montepulciano emerges suddenly, perched on a hill. The town is known as a Renaissance masterpiece thanks to its unique architecture: every street opens into squares with noble palaces and local craft shops. The main piazza, called Piazza Grande, at the highest point of the city. This piazza is home to Montepulciano's cathedral and its Renaissance palazzi built by the city's most influential families. The city hall, also called Palazzo Comunale, resembles the better known Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, ordered by Cosimo de Medici. Above these, in the other palazzos, there are the numerous cellars inside, which represent the deep roots of the wine culture of Montepulciano.

Finally, Lake Trasimeno is the last unmissable destination of the itinerary. An ideal destination for those seeking the tranquility of the countryside, this Umbrian lake is famous for its crystal clear waters surrounded by olive groves and fishing villages. Autumn, the oil production period, is the perfect time to taste the local olive oil, known for its light and slightly spicy flavour.

Also not to be missed are Isola Maggiore and Isola Polbese, both with their own charm and history. The lake offers a valid alternative for those traveling outside the city and wanting to enjoy nature without renouncing historical beauty.

Montepulciano, Val d'Orcia and Lake Trasimeno form a harmonious trio that perfectly represent the essence of central Italy. From the architectural wonders and wine culture of Montepulciano, to the elegance of the landscape of the Val d'Orcia and the shores of Lake Trasimeno, this corner will leave an unforgettable impression of the essence of Tuscany and Umbria, where history, culture and nature blend together.
