[아츠앤컬쳐] 폴란드 최대의 섬인 볼린섬은 너비 약 265 km²에 이르며, 이 섬에 도시 미엥지즈드로예가 있다. 미엥지즈드로예는 자체 면적이 114.38 km² 이고 해안선 길이는 16km에 달하며 발트해에서 가장 높은 절벽도 이곳에 위치해 있다. 북쪽은 볼린 국립공원의 숲으로 둘러싸여 있으며 서쪽으로는 바다의 넓은 파노라마를 감상할 수 있다. 미엥지즈드로예는 관광 인프라를 계속해서 개발하여 매년 새로운 관광 명소를 제공하고 있다.

1884년에 목재로 건설되었다가 지금은 콘크리트로 개축된 부두는 길이가 395m나 되는데 현재 폴란드에서 가장 길고 역사가 오래된 부두이다. 이 부두는 독특하고 탁 트인 포모르스키에주의 전망을 제공하며, 저녁에는 시비노우이시치에 등대와 LNG 터널의 불빛도 멀리서 볼 수 있다.

미엥지즈드로예에서 관광객들에게 가장 인기 있는 명소는 1996년부터 열리고 있는 ‘별의 축제’와 연관된 ‘스타의 거리’라고 할 수 있다. 이곳에는 200개가 넘는 폴란드 예술가들의 핸드프린팅이 새겨져 있다. 또한 조용한 휴식을 원하는 사람들은 해변 산책로 근처의 프리데리크 쇼팽 공원을 찾아 쉴 수도 있다. 이 공원에서는 참나무, 그리스의 플라타너스 나무 등 다양한 나무들과 쇼팽의 흉상, 해양 화가 에릭 폰 제트비츠에게 헌정된 돌 등을 볼 수 있다. 공원의 가장자리에 위치한 국제문화관은 19세기 중반 고전주의 형식의 유서 깊은 건물이다. 원형극장 맞은편의 미엥지즈드로예 중앙 산책로에는 밀랍인형 박물관, 천문관, 에바 극장 등 다목적 명소들도 자리해 있다. 근처에는 해양 수족관도 함께 위치하는데, 16m 길이의 반 터널을 통해 이국적인 물고기와 다양한 해양 생물들의 모습을 감상할 수 있다.

시내 중심가에는 앵무새 하우스, 볼린 국립공원 자연사 박물관, 스텔라 마투티나 예배당 등이 있다. 네오고딕 양식으로 지어졌으며 탁월한 음향을 자랑하는 성 베드로 사도 교회도 방문할 가치가 있다. 또한 볼린 국립공원에 위치한 유럽 들소 쇼 농장도 빼놓을 수 없는 인기 관광명소이다. 102번 도로를 타고 가다 보면 발틱 미니어처 공원을 볼 수 있는데, 유적에 관심이 있는 사람들은 이곳에서 발트해와 관련한 독특한 경험을 할 수 있을 것이다.

미엥지즈드로예에는 독특한 자연적 특성과 전망대, 그리고 수많은 희귀한 명소가 있는 농촌 지역도 있다. 예를 들면, 잘레시에 지역의 V3 무기 박물관, 그리고 루빈 지역의 중세 마을과 전망대 등을 말한다.

Międzyzdroje in Wolin island

Międzyzdroje is situated on the largest Polish island – Wolin – of 265 km². The municipality is 114.38 km² and has 16 km of shoreline, with the highest cliff face on the Baltic Sea. To the north, the city is surrounded by the wooded hills of the Wolin National Park, while to the west one can enjoy a wide open panorama of the sea. Międzyzdroje is constantly developing its tourist infrastructure, offering new attractions every year. The oldest of them is the pier. The first wooden pier was built in 1884. Currently, it is the longest concrete pier in Poland, stretching over 395 m. It offers a unique panoramic view of the Pomeranian Bay. In the evenings, the lights of the Świnoujście lighthouse and LNG terminal can be seen in the distance.

The attraction most popular with tourists is the Avenue of Stars, the work of Prof. Adam Myjak connected to the Festival of Stars, which has been held here since 1996. The avenue features more than 200 handprints of Polish artists. Near the promenade, those looking for some peace and quiet can relax in Frederic Chopin Park. Within it, there are some spectacular specimens of oak trees, plane trees of Greek origin, arborvitaes and yew trees. In the park one can also find a bust of the brilliant composer Frederic Chopin and a stone dedicated to the maritime painter Erik von Zedtwitz. Located on the edge of the park, the International House of Culture is a historic building in classicist style from the mid-19th century. In the centre of the Międzyzdroje promenade, opposite the amphitheatre, visitors can enjoy a complex of attractions: Wax Figures Museum, Planetarium and Eva Cinema. The Oceanarium is also located nearby, featuring a 16-metre-long half-tunnel, in which exotic fish and other marine organisms swim around.

In the city centre, visitors will find a Parrot House, the Wolin National Park Natural History Museum, the Stella Matutina Chapel. The tower of the 1862 neo-Gothic parish Church of Saint Peter the Apostle overlooks the city. Situated on Piast Hill, the church boasts exceptional acoustics. One of the most popular tourist attractions is the European Bison Show Enclosure, located within the Wolin National Park. Following road no. 102 towards Świnoujscie, on the right-hand side you will reach the Baltic Miniatures Park. Heritage enthusiasts can experience a unique journey around the Baltic Sea here.

Międzyzdroje also features district rural areas with unique natural features, viewpoints and plenty of curiosities: Turkusowe (Turquoise) Lake in Wapnica, the V3 Weapons Museum in Zalesie, the Medieval Settlement and Viewpoints in Lubin.
