[아츠앤컬쳐] 폴란드 북아트박물관은 우츠 시 크시엥지 므윈 지역의 100년 이상 된 빌라에 위치하고 있다. 이 지역은 도시 내 가장 큰 규모의 섬유 공업단지이며, 제2차 세계대전 때까지는 샤이블러-그로만 가족의 소유였다. 오늘날에는 우츠 시 경제특구의 한 구역으로 남아있는 곳이다.

북아트박물관은 폴란드 문화유산부에 의해 설립되었으며 예술통신재단에 의해 공동 운영되고 있다. 예술통신재단은 수십 년간 유럽인쇄박물관협회의 회원으로 활동해왔는데, 이때 얻은 노하우를 가지고 2023년부터는 북아트박물관을 새롭게 활용하고 있다.

박물관 내부는 타이포그래피, 스크린 인쇄, 사진, 석판화, 금속, 목판화, 그리고 서예 작업장으로 구성되어 있다. 제본과 인쇄, 주조와 같이 종이와 관련한 작업시설도 함께 둘러볼 수 있다. 또한 폴란드와 외국의 현대미술서적 컬렉션을 소장하고 있기 때문에 책을 통한 예술세계를 탐구하기에도 충분한 곳이다. 다양한 전시 프로그램도 기획하고 있으며 인쇄 예술, 북아트, 무료 아트 레지던시 등을 주제로 한 워크숍도 진행된다.

박물관은 한 바르샤바 서체 업체로부터 생산 장비들과 독특한 형태의 매트릭스 세트를 인수했는데 주의를 기울여 감상해볼 만하다. 폴란드 예술서적 컬렉션도 소장하고 있으니 20세기와 21세기 전환기부터 지속적으로 발전해 온 폴란드 예술서적의 역사를 살펴볼 수도 있을 것이다. 북아트박물관을 관리해오며 예술통신재단이 이뤄낸 성과와 수상 이력은 재단이 더욱 발전할 수 있게끔 해준다. 재단은 쿠알라룸푸르, 싱가포르, 서울, 시카고, 함부르크, 예루살렘, 라이프치히, 워싱턴의 미국 의회 도서관을 포함해 전 세계에서 프로젝트를 수행해왔다. 이를 통해 미국 인쇄사 협회 상 (2015), 우츠 시 상 (1997), 폴란드 예술가 디자이너 협회장(ZPAP)장 상 (2006), 폴란드 문화 공로 훈장(2013) 등의 높은 권위의 상들을 수상했다. 현재 박물관이 위치한 곳은 머지않아 종합적인 활성화 계획이 예정되어 있다.

The Book Art Museum

The Book Art Museum in Łódź is housed in a 100-year-old villa in the district of Księży Młyn. From the mid-nineteenth century until World War II, the largest textile complex in the city was owned by the Scheibler-Grohman family. Today, it is still a revitalized post-industrial area and part of the Łódź Special Economic Zone.

The museum, established by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland, is an institution co-run by the Correspondence des Arts Foundation. As a new facility, it has been operating since 2023 based on the experience gained over several decades by the Foundation, which is a member of the Association of European Printing Museums.

The Museum has the following workshops: typography, screen printing, photography, lithography, metal, woodcut, calligraphy. There are workshops of: bookbinding, printing, and foundry. The institution disseminates knowledge about the art of the book based on its collections of contemporary art books, both Polish and foreign. It implements an exhibition program, conducts various types of workshops related to the art of printing, the art of the book and free artistic residencies.

In the museum's collection, a unique set of matrices from the Warsaw Font Foundry, taken over together with the production equipment, deserves special attention. The resources of the institution include the constantly developed collection of the Polish Book of Art from the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. The successes and awards received by the Book Art Museum, previously managed only by the Foundation, also constitute the heritage and the basis for the further development of the institution. The Foundation has implemented projects in many places around the world, including the national libraries of Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Seoul, Chicago, Hamburg, Jerusalem, Leipzig, and the US Library of Congress in Washington. For its activities, the Foundation has received prestigious awards: the American Print History Association Award (2015), the Award of the City of Łódź (1997), the Award of the President of ZPAP (2006), badge: Merit for Polish Culture (2013). The historic seat of the institution will soon undergo a comprehensive revitalization.
