Lublin’s Old Town is one of the most beautiful places of its type in Poland. It has a medieval urban structure and highly ornamented historical houses, with those from the Renaissance attracting particular attention. What is so special about the Old Town is its authenticity and climate of centuries past. Entrance to this magical place is guarded by the old Cracow Gate –one of the city’s signature feats of architecture, built in the 14th century along with the defensive wall.

On the Old Town is also situated Trinitarian Tower - the neo-Gothic tower is the tallest historical viewing area in Lublin. From a height of 40 m, tourists may admire the vast panorama of the city. The Lublin underground route is also worth seeing. The over two-hundred-meter-long underground route running under the Old Town starts in the vaults of the Polish Tribunal. During the walk, visitors may learn about the history of Lublin and participate in a multimedia show.

Lublin is a city of culture, the most important center of cultural life in Eastern Poland. Lublin’s culture is unique and inclusive, authentic and original, since it is rooted in the local context. It is characterized by participation and diversity, encounters of different cultures, religions and ideas, motivating inhabitants to discover themselves, other people and the world. With its theatres, galleries, museums, philharmonic orchestra, opera and operetta stage, Lublin is an undisputed center of cultural life in this part of Poland.

Lublin Museum is the one of the oldest and largest cultural institutions on the right side of the Vistula River. It has four branches in Lublin and five outside the city. The headquarters of the museum and most of its branches are high-class monuments. The museum collects and exhibits monuments of archaeology, ethnography, military, numismatics and art. The Trinity Chapel at Lublin Castle is one of the most valuable monuments of medieval art, not only in Poland but in the whole of Europe. It is a testimony to trans-cultural diffusion between the East and the West, unique at a European scale. The City of Lublin has been awarded the European Heritage Label as the place of signing of the Union of Lublin – a special symbol of peaceful and democratic integration of two countries differing in terms of religion and ethnicity. These notions are materially represented by Lublin’s historical monuments which have witnessed or commemorated the Union: the Trinity Chapel at Lublin Castle, the Union of Lublin Monument and St. Stanislaus the Bishop and Martyr Church, along with the Dominican Monastery.

The Centre for Meeting of Cultures is the largest investment in a field of culture in the history of the Lublin Province. In the opera house hosting 1000 people, the largest cultural events take place such as Seal's concert or the opera "The Dead City" of the Grand Theatre - National Opera in Warsaw. The building also houses the ballet, chamber and cinema halls as well as a gallery of temporary exhibitions. The Centre for Culture in Lublin combines the traditions of a city cultural centre with a modern arts centre opened to innovative directions of activities. Every month over one hundred events are organized here, including the most important Lublin’s theatre, film, music and educational festivals. All of these happen in a restored, modern equipped 18th-century building.

Popular and recognized international festivals are held in the city almost all year round. From May to late autumn, Lublin’s streets and squares turn into venues for various artistic events: Night of Culture, Festival of Art in Public Space – Open City, Different Sounds Art’n’Music Festival, Magicians’ Carnival, Jagiellonian Fair, European Festival of Taste, Lublin Literary Encounters – City of Poetry. Lublin also has outdoor festivals presenting the culture of the national and ethnic minorities living in the city: Multicultural Lublin and Ukraine in the Centre of Lublin.
