Christmas illuminations in parks and snow-sprinkled streets, cosy inviting cafés, and festive markets all over the city make a winter break in the Polish capital a truly unique experience. Get your warm jackets and mittens ready and off we go to join locals for a walk along the festively decorated Royal Route leading up to the Old Town. There in front of the Royal Castle, you’ll spot a beautifully decorated gigantic Christmas tree. Spectacular illuminations await the visitors also in the gardens of the baroque Palace at Wilanów.

In the winter season, shops in Warsaw get decorated in a festive way, too. Shopping malls begin their early sales, while cool Polish designers in their concept stores and boutiques try to win the customers with their original and funky products. Worth seeking out during this time of year are Christmas fairs and yard sales, which gather young followers of the latest trends. Looking for original gifts from Poland? Pay a visit to one of the Warsaw Christmas markets, which open up in November and run until the beginning of January.

While soaking up the festive feel, warm up with steaming mulled wine, or try the seasonal specialty loved by the Poles – hot beer with honey and spices.
