[아츠앤컬쳐] 피렌체대성당 위에 우뚝 솟은 경이로운 돔 ‘쿠폴라’는 1420년~1436년에 필리포 브루넬레스키가 설계하고 건축한 것이다. 쿠폴라의 그늘 아래 좁은 골목길로 들어서면, 옛 석주들이 줄지어 서 있는 궁전과 장인들의 작업장이 펼쳐진다.
피렌체에는 잘 알려지지 않은 것들이 많은데, 오늘 그 중 예술의 한 부분에 대해 말하려 한다. 도시의 예술은 고대의 영화를 기억하지 못하지만, 여전히 예술의 ‘예’를 가르치고 배우고 세계와 공유한다. 피렌체 예술의 한 자락은 산 마르코 광장을 휘감고 흐른다. 광장이 내려다보이는 곳에 있는 1784년에 설립된 미술아카데미에서는 대학 수준의 회화와 조각 예술을 가르쳐왔다. 그 옆으로는 화려한 다비드상을 비롯하여 미켈란젤로 부오나로티의 걸작들이 소장되어 있는 유명한 아카데미아박물관이다. 몇 걸음 더 가면 케루비니음악원과 역시 높은 수준으로 문화유산 보존과 복원을 가르치는 피에트르 뒤레 공방이 있다.
다시 산 마르코광장으로 돌아가면, 1400년대 베아토 안젤리코의 멋진 프레스코화가 있는 산마르코 수녀원을 찾을 수 있다. 몇 걸음 더 나아가 숨겨진 보석 스칼조회랑에는 안드레아 델 사르토와 프란치아비지오의 16세기 초 피렌체 그림 중 널리 알려진 중요한 작품이 있다.
거기서 그리 멀지 않은 알베르티 단테 고등학교(www.iisalberti-dante.it)에서는 14세~19세의 약 1,200명의 학생들이 9학년부터 14학년까지 ‘예술’을 배운다. 이탈리아 일반고교의 커리큘럼 외에도 ‘예술’ 전공 학생들은 회화와 그래픽, 플라스틱과 조각, 건축과 실내 디자인, 세트 디자인, 시청각 및 멀티미디어 기술을 배운다. ‘음악’ 전공은 두 가지 악기를 완벽하게 익히면서 앙상블과 밴드 음악 수업에 참여하고, 고전 인문학 전공은 라틴어와 고대 그리스어를 공부한다. 학년은 2학기 4분기로 나뉘며, 9월 중순부터 약 6월 중순까지 알베르티 단테 IIS는 학생, 교직원, 교직원들로 가득하다. IIS는 여름에 음악과 미술 분야의 마스터클래스를 국제적으로 개설한다. 올해 마스터클래스 일정은 4월에 홈페이지에 올라올 예정이다.
피렌체의 옛골목길에서는 아직도 ‘위대한’ 도나텔로, 보티첼리, 레온 바티스타 알베르티, 레오나르도 다 빈치, 미켈란젤로의 발자취가 여전히 영감을 끌어내어 일하는 장인들의 발자국 소리와 함께 어우러지는 것을 들을 수 있는데, 참으로 고요하고 사려 깊은 지혜에 기쁨까지 더해주는 아름다움이다. 방문객은 이를 무의식적으로 받아들이며 변화된 자신을 발견하게 된다. 어떻게? 실용적이면서도 창의적인 고대 피렌체는 예술을 통해 그 마법을 표현하도록 모두를 격려한다.

Secret Florence: The Corner of the Arts
In the shadow of the "Cupolone," the marvelous dome that towers over Florence Cathedral, designed and built by Filippo Brunelleschi between 1420 and 1436, the ancient city unfolds with its narrow alleys, palaces lined with ancient stones and artisan workshops.
There are corners of Florence that are little known, however, today we will talk about one of them: the corner of the Arts. This part of the city does not live in the memory of ancient splendor, but here still Art with a capital "A" is taught, learned and shared with the World. Florence's Corner of the Arts winds around Piazza San Marco. Overlooking the square is the Accademia delle Belle Arti (Academy of Fine Arts), founded in 1784, where painting and sculpture arts were taught at the university level. Next to the Accademia, we find the famous Accademia Museum, which houses the sculptural masterpieces of Michelangelo Buonarroti, including the splendid David. A few more steps and we find the Cherubini Conservatory of Music, as well as the Opificio delle Pietre Dure, where conservation and restoration of cultural heritage is taught at the university level.
Returning to Piazza S.Marco (San Marco square), we find the Convent of San Marco, wonderfully frescoed by Beato Angelico in the 1400s. A few more steps and, set in Via Larga, a hidden jewel: the Chiostro dello Scalzo, which preserves one of the most important and resounding cycles of early 16th-century Florentine painting by Andrea del Sarto and Franciabigio.
Not far away, spread over several plexuses, is the Alberti-Dante High School (www.iisalberti-dante.it). Here some 1,200 students between the ages of 14 and 19 study "the arts" from grade nine to fourteen. In addition to the curricular subjects of a normal Italian high school, students who choose the "arts" path study painting and graphics, plastic and sculpture, architecture and interior design, set design, audiovisual and multimedia techniques. Those who choose the "music" path, perfect the study of two instruments, also participating in ensemble and band music classes. Those who go for the classical-humanities path study Latin and ancient Greek. The school year is divided into two four-quarter terms, and from mid-September to about mid-June, the Alberti-Dante IIS is a teeming with students, faculty and school staff.
In summer, the IIS organizes master classes (catalog courses) in Music and Fine Arts, which are open to the outside World, including internationally. Upcoming dates of master classes, will be available at www.iisalberti-dante.it , from April 2023.
In the ancient alleys of Florence, one can still hear the echoes of the footsteps of the "greats" Donatello, Botticelli, Leon Battista Alberti, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, mingling together with those of the artisans who still work there and draw inspiration. It is a beauty that gives joy in its quiet and thoughtful wisdom. A visitor finds himself absorbing it almost unconsciously and finding himself transformed by it. How? Ancient Florence, pragmatic and creative, spurs everyone to get involved and express their magic through Art.
